Congratulations, @VPTA_Tweets! With the passage of SB 1253, Virginia now has stronger protections for the use of "DPT" and "doctor of physical therapy." This legislation upholds the integrity of the PT profession by ensuring that these titles are used appropriately. #PTadvocacy

@KylePBarber Have you looked at the actual reported scores? These grades are so arbitrary when you're like 26th/32 but satisfaction is an 8.6/10. Either they need to really change how they are communicating the ratings or base the final rating off a scale not vs. other teams

Today marks the first day I am unable to fly to DC for votes due to travel restrictions ahead of my due date. It shouldn't be this way. Congress must pass my bipartisan resolution to allow Members who are new parents to vote remotely.

@drjoshfunk @pps_apta @APTAtweets We REALLY need to spend more time with D2C marketing and building up relationships with PCPs and family medicine practitioners ...also PT needs a rebrand. We are so fragmented as a profession and too many people think all we do is stretch, massage, and use ultrasound 🙄

@drjoshfunk @pps_apta president made a good remark at @APTAtweets HoD this year when he said we need to stop talking to insurance companies about how we can "save them money" by utilizing PT more frequently in front line healthcare bc they are hearing "cost us revenue"

@drjoshfunk What about Coke in US vs Mexico? It's ridiculous how much crap we add to our food/beverages in this country. Sad state of affairs

@drjoshfunk Obv depends on your setting and your own personal mental capacity, but just some things to consider. I agree it's not JUST work volume that leads to burnout. The things you suggested are all important but they don't prevent burnout on their own either.

@drjoshfunk In PT I think it's less physical load and more mental load that's the issue. Patients bring a LOT of trauma into their sessions and it can be heavy for clinicians when they don't have time to decompress during the day. Things like documentation, room turnover, etc. add to this

I don’t think Burnout is related to Quantity of work… As much as it related to: • How connected you are to your work • The progress you experience from your work • What you do to fill your cup up and find alignment away from work Thoughts?

Witnessing my career evolve from someone unheralded and un-heard of to a person that people seek for collaboration and expertise is one of the most rewarding things to me. So many exciting things on the horizon for my two professional passions respiratory muscle testing/training and medical screening! God is so Good!

Lets Talk Salary & Benefits in Physical Therapy At some point, benefits are nice BUT a large majority of professionals would just prefer higher salary. True or False? Why?

@ZachThePT @drjoshfunk Funny you brought up the ACL rehab because that's a great example for variability in prognosis with regard to visits. This is also a good example why in-network visit caps can be a hindrance and highlights how PT is not valued by these private payers

@drmassumi @drjoshfunk It’s very easy to estimate costs with $5-10/ visit. So you are telling me that you can exactly tell someone how much their ACL rehab will cost? You must be a prognostic savant. To add to Josh, I also have never had an intervention which wasn’t covered or needed specific auth.

The top 3 listed here are not unique to any one given “model” Only the 4th is isolated to individuals taking insurance.
Cameron Massumi, PT, DPT@drmassumi

@drjoshfunk I'm not anti insurance, but there's a reason I operate my practice in a "cash based" or fee for service model. -no visit restrictions -no intervention restrictions -price transparency for the patients & for us -no stupid timed codes

@ZachThePT @drjoshfunk Within $5-10 every visit? So you pretty much always use the same codes? I guarantee results within a set number of visits and they don't pay for additional visits if needed, so yes I feel confident in my prognostic abilities.

@drmassumi @drjoshfunk I created a model to get people their "cost".. .... billing complaints were damn near existent after (as compared to before) And there we no packages

@drjoshfunk You can definitely have an idea based on this, but again people's "cost" varies on their deductible, OOP max, etc. Not to mention what you decide to do each visit and the number of codes you bill can change the avg visit cost vs. with us it's a flat fee no matter what

@drmassumi We communicate to the individual at visit one exactly what their responsibility is as well as the relative cost for their sessions depending on the fee schedule for the insurance. They receive a sheet with it written out and are emailed a website link for a reminder.

@drjoshfunk Visit counts are so arbitrary and don't allow for flexibility for the individual. It is devaluing our services and adding increased administrative burden to our PTs and often lapses in care for our patients when extended care is needed

@drmassumi In addition, visit counts are fine. That’s a set coverage. Then after insurance no longer covers, the individual transitions to solely a cash transaction. Again, it’s about options.

@drjoshfunk When I was in-network I would get denied coverage for needling, MSKUS, biofeedback, ionto, etc. There was not consistency in coverage between carriers and it was a massive burden (administratively) to have to follow-up with each on individual cases

What intervention? I do exercise and manual… Along with BFR, Stim and compression at times. No issues there 🤷‍♂️
Cameron Massumi, PT, DPT@drmassumi

@drjoshfunk Lastly, there are plenty of interventions or procedures that you do need authorization for in insurance that I do not need being OON.
