Shout out to @SouthwestAir for the great service between Tampa2BWI this pm. Returning from @USACSolutions conf with 25 colleagues and got a shout out from the captain. Thanks for getting us in 30 minutes early and congrats to him on 32 years of service and his upcoming retirement

@hwinkler4real The second most useful class I took in high school (first was journalism which taught me how to write).

@Miazolam I remember driving in for my July4th overnight PGY2 serving as the trauma resident that night. Drove past a huge multi block party near the hospital. 6 GSW's that night. I knew I wasn't an intern after that shift.

For those asking for an update: I annihilated approximately 4 pounds of peanut butter M&Ms immediately upon entering my car that’s how the shift went 🫠

I can’t believe I’m typing this but I’m the EM chief on the trauma side of the ED at a NYC level 1 trauma center on July 4th overnight. Thoughts and prayers appreciated.

@mhjrad I love this book. It's dated and some will be turned off by that but it's such a great read and so many phrases we still use in the ER come from it.

@KirkHerbstreit Thank you for using your platform (and hopefully some funds) by offering to partner to help evaluate young people who may be at risk for sudden death from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I hope someone, at least at OSU, takes you up on in.

I have no idea about Ben and his health history and respectfully this isn’t about politics. Heart disease-cardiac arrhythmia-irregular heartbeat have been an issues with young people for generations! My grandfather-aunt-brother-myself all diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. All these can be diagnosed with the proper testing-it’s expensive to do it universally but feel it’s last time to help prevent these unfortunate type of situations. Please don’t take the low hanging fruit and make it about Covid-the vaccine-or your politics. This has been an issues for several decades.

@olsonplanner Consider getting an executive coach. It can help you understand your values and priorities, help you achieve goal setting, reduce burnout, and improve your work life balance.

Yesterday, a doctor told me the only difference between training and attendinghood is the income. That his life still doesn’t feel like it’s his own. What can he do to change that?

I think one of the hardest parts of EM intern year is not truly having a practice pattern yet and continually working with attendings who have different practice patterns so you always feel like you’re wrong.
