@NicoPerrino And, they’ll lose again. The internal documents provided as evidence against Meta is overwhelming(pictured). And, there’s plenty more where that came from. It turns out, “Move fast and break things” comes with a price tag.

S 230 written thirty years ago? The digital landscape has changed dramatically since 1996. This isn’t about free speech. It’s about responsibility. Parents have asked Big Tech CEO’s to work together to keep kids safe. •Parents can’t out engineer designs and features meant to addict kids. •Parents can’t see disappearing messages or livestreams. •Parents can’t disable accounts used by sextortionists, pedophiles, dealers, bullies. •Parents can’t change the algorithmic feed. •Parents can’t remove beauty filters and editing tools. You know who can? Big Tech. But, they don’t. Because they’re greedy and only see dollar signs when it comes to kids. The internal documents used as evidence(pictured) against Meta & Google is overwhelming. And, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. It turns “Move fast and break things” comes with a price tag. Teens deserve a safe online experience.

@andymstone @DavidAFrench What are you talking about? In some cases, social media is literally delivering a drug through its site.😭 The mountain of internal documents used as evidence(pictured) is overwhelming and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Nobody is coming for your free speech. Get over yourselves already. What has this world come to when mountains of evidence(pictured) against Big Tech proves they intentionally design their products and features to harm kids for the last ten years but adults argue in support of greedy Big Tech? Profits over kids safety is unconscionable. •Parents can’t out engineer designs and features intended to addict kids. •Parents can’t change the algorithms. •Parents can’t view disappearing messages. •Parents can’t disable the accounts of sextortionist, pedophiles, drug dealers, bullies, etc. even when they make new accounts. I'm with David. Social media is awful (yes, I'm here, I'm part of the problem), but we can't throw out the free speech baby to get rid of some crappy social media bathwater. Parents and schools should crack down on children's phone/screen usage, not the government.

I am alarmed by the negative influence of smartphones and social media on children. All of us should be. I am also worried that in our zeal to protect children from those negative influences that we will violate the Constitution and undermine free speech. nytimes.com/2026/03/29/opi…

This is an extremely good!!! @DavidAFrench is more worried about social media than I am but extremely thoughtful and measured in his analysis of free speech implications. We need more of this. Please read the whole thing "A social media site isn’t a bottle of alcohol or a cigarette. It’s not delivering a drug. It’s delivering speech. Sometimes that speech is silly and harmless. Sometimes it is toxic and harmful. Sometimes it’s educational or inspiring. But it’s all speech, and in America speech traditionally can only be blocked, censored or regulated in the narrowest of circumstances."

Jonathan Haidt dropped a pretty blunt warning about giving young kids iPads or phones. He says we’ve all discovered how incredibly effective they are as pacifiers — they work almost instantly. But that’s exactly the problem. 40% of American two-year-olds already have their own iPad. Once a child gets used to constant stimulation, they basically never learn how to be bored. The moment they have even 30 seconds of downtime, they start screaming for the device. Haidt’s advice is straightforward: If you haven’t started, don’t. If you already have, take it away. It might take 3–4 weeks for the brain to readjust, but it’s worth it. He’s even hearing stories of preschoolers crying at drop-off — not because mom is leaving, but because the iPad is staying in the car. It’s a sobering reminder of how quickly these devices rewire young brains and create real addiction patterns. Have you noticed this with kids in your life, or are you trying to hold the line on screens with little ones?

What do you think happened in our culture, independent of technology, that caused teenage self esteem and self harm rates to spike and time with friends to fall off a cliff, at the exact same moment as the adoption of the smart phone?
Adam Ozimek@ModeledBehavior

Maybe this is tautological but I think most of our problems with technology are actually problems with our culture and it’s just easier to lash out at technology, with its corporate profiteers, and demand the law do the work instead of the harder task of cultural change
