Thanks to @NEJMEvidence for the chance to share our framework on the risks of IDU and opportunities to mitigate harm. A privilege to work with and learn from @katherinemrich, the engine and the brains behind this operation. The future of ID/addiction medicine is bright. 👇

What are the mechanisms (structural, social, physiologic) that result in complications of injection drug use? And how can we improve health among individuals who inject drugs? @dsolsMD and I share a framework and a review of current evidence in a new 2 part series. 1/x

@SanjayDivakaran @BrighamMedRes Did I really say "tell the truth?" Sounds so patronizing, but I suppose it is remains good advice to live by. And look how prescient I was – a decade on we are still having fun and learning together. We should update our (non-patronizing) tips for new interns.

Welcome to the @BrighamMedRes family to our new interns. Passing on this advice from my first resident (and role model) @dsolsMD sent to me 10 years (!) ago: "All I ask is that you show up on time, work hard, and tell the truth. We'll have fun and learn together."

Who knew that a meningococcal vaccine could be also effective against N. Gonorrhea? Is this a feasible strategy for combating N. gonorrhea in the setting of increased antimicrobial resistance patterns? @serotavirus @sebpoule @PaulSaxMD
Metro Infectious Disease Consultants@MIDCUSA

Neisseria meningitidis vs Neisseria gonorrhea. Clinically VASTLY different, but turns out they SHARE antigenic determinants including outer membrane vesicles. 4CMenB Vaccine for N. Meningitidis appears PROTECTIVE against infection with N. Gonorrhea buff.ly/3zjFId9

@BWDionne @mmPharmD @dsolsMD It is definitely a dilemma: Give orals knowing they are likely going to be less than ideal for adherence or give dalba and hope they don't miss 50% of the treatment.

Lyme disease - just the sort of twitter action I need in my life, thanks Jake. While we are here though...required reading from the lay media for all of us living in New England: thecut.com/2019/07/what-h…

Flu season is around the corner. BUT if we maintain NPIs through the winter, we are likely to see a decrease in influenza this year. Can we use the lessons we learn from COVID-19 to decrease influenza morbidity and mortality in subsequent seasons?
Sanjat Kanjilal@SanjatKanjilal

ja.ma/34382AO via @JAMA_current @dsolsMD, @Dr_AmyKacin and I discuss the interaction of #COVID19 and #flu For the upcoming virus season, *all* ppl w/upper respiratory sx will require testing for #SARSCoV2 +/- flu. Does your lab have the capacity to handle it?
