An initial startup idea can't usually be both grand and precise. In practice they're usually either grand and vague or precise and small. Precise and small is better. You know who your initial users are, and you expand outward. With grand and vague you can't even get started.

Vagueposting used to "work" but then two things happened: (1) 'vagueposting' got coined, as a a name, and (2) all of these memes cropped up. Now as soon as you do it you get called out through them. This changes the economic calculus for engaging in it and it stops working.

Apparently "meritocracy" was coined as an insult Michael Young 1958's The Rise of the Meritocracy where he predicts that "merit-selection" would produce a nastier aristocracy than the old one, because winners would believe they deserved it and losers would have no story left.
