@TheAmericanSaf For context, these videos are people that have never even seen a modern bottle so this post isn’t very accurate. Someone from England circa the year 1600 wouldn’t know how to open it either.

Look at these 65 IQ nigs trying to open a bottle. Even a 4 year old has a better understanding of doing this shit then this porch monkey has of conceptualizing that liquid at some point must come from the top of bottle after unscrewing the cap.

Modern humans Homo sapiens are often thought of as the sole outcome of human evolution, but the fossil record tells a more complex and crowded story. For much of our prehistoric past, multiple human species existed at the same time, sharing landscapes, resources, and in some cases even interacting with each other. Around 300,000 years ago, Homo sapiens emerged in Africa. But we were not alone for long. In different parts of the world, other closely related human species were already established or evolving. Among them were Homo neanderthalensis in Europe and western Asia, known for their robust bodies and adaptation to cold climates. In Asia, Homo erectus survived for an exceptionally long time, spanning nearly two million years before disappearing. On islands like Flores in Indonesia, Homo floresiensis, a small bodied human species sometimes called the hobbit, lived in isolation. In Siberia, Denisovans are known mainly from DNA evidence and a few fossil fragments, yet they left a genetic imprint in modern human populations. These species were not mythical or distant ancestors in isolation. Genetic research shows that Homo sapiens interbred with Neanderthals and Denisovans, meaning that small portions of their DNA still exist within many living humans today. This discovery has reshaped how scientists understand human identity, showing that evolution is not a simple replacement process but a complex web of branching populations. The reasons why Homo sapiens became the only surviving human species are still debated. Likely factors include climate fluctuations, competition for resources, technological advantages, and small population sizes of other groups. Over thousands of years, these pressures led to the gradual disappearance of other human species, though not before leaving their genetic and archaeological traces behind. A fascinating and strange fact is that some Neanderthal groups had larger brain volumes than modern humans, yet this did not guarantee survival, showing that intelligence alone does not determine evolutionary success. © The Prehistoric World #archaeohistories

Two near life size sculptures unearthed from an ancient Roman tomb in Pompeii... Archaeologists working at Pompeii uncovered these near life-size funerary sculptures from a Roman tomb outside the ancient city’s walls, offering new insight into burial customs and elite society in the final decades before Pompeii’s destruction in AD 79. Roman tombs often featured detailed reliefs or statues depicting the deceased in formal clothing, emphasizing family status, citizenship, and social identity. The exceptionally preserved carvings at Pompeii provide historians with valuable evidence about Roman fashion, portraiture, and funerary traditions during the early Roman Empire. Pompeii was buried beneath volcanic ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, preserving buildings, artwork, inscriptions, and human remains with extraordinary detail. Continuous excavations over the past two centuries have transformed the site into one of the most important archaeological locations in the world. Modern excavations at Pompeii increasingly use technologies such as laser scanning, DNA analysis, and ground-penetrating radar to uncover information about daily Roman life that earlier archaeologists could not detect. #archaeohistories

Archibald Roosevelt is the only American to be declared 100% disabled for the same knee injury in both World War I and World War II. His record reflects an unusual combination of frontline service, repeated wounds, and continued willingness to wear the uniform. In World War I, he served at the front and was seriously wounded, enough to lead to a medical discharge. Even so, when World War II broke out he rejoined the military, showing a determination that stood out even among decorated veterans. During his second tour he was wounded again, this time in the same knee, and the injury was severe enough to earn him a second 100% disability rating, a distinction no other U.S. service member is known to share. His choice to serve again after a major wound ties into the broader Roosevelt tradition of public service. His older brother, Theodore Roosevelt Jr., led troops ashore on D‑Day in Normandy despite serious health problems, then died in France a month later. Archibald’s story is often remembered less than his brother’s, but it still stands as an example of grit, loyalty, and a refusal to let injury end his commitment. A routine medical inspection of Austro-Hungarian sailors aboard a naval vessel, likely around 1910... This captures a moment that was once an ordinary and necessary routine aboard naval vessels in the early twentieth century. When sailors returned from shore leave, especially in busy port cities, they underwent mandatory medical inspections before they were allowed to rejoin the crew. These examinations were intended to prevent the spread of infections that could sweep through a ship with alarming speed. Naval doctors checked for pubic lice, skin infections, and sexually transmitted diseases, all of which were common risks for sailors who had spent time ashore. In an era before antibiotics and modern treatments, even a small outbreak could severely impact a ship’s operational readiness. The setting here is spartan and practical, with sailors lining up in various stages of undress, their uniforms draped casually as they wait their turn. The doctor’s posture and the sailors’ expressions suggest a routine understood by everyone involved, even if it was far from comfortable. These inspections were part of a broader push by navies around the world to maintain discipline, safeguard health, and ensure that ships remained capable of long deployments. What feels invasive today was once considered essential to preserving the fighting strength of a crew isolated at sea. By World War I, some navies began distributing prophylactic kits containing disinfectants and protective supplies, an early precursor to modern public health initiatives aimed at reducing STDs among military personnel. © Reddit #archaeohistories
