@thelb236 The weekend after TC was released, he was filling in for a local diocesan pastor to say the dominican rite. His homily blamed the laity for it. Some people got up and left.

@duckslaw @CullumSmith Priests around here do it during daily mass. If anything, they do it more at low Mass than high Mass. The DR is approved by the bishop’s conference in the US.

@CullumSmith Most interpret this to mean that they must be proclaimed in English at some point, and so they do it during the homily.

@lukei4655 Seems very VII to me. "... men cannot discharge [the obligation to seek and adhere to the truth] in a manner in keeping with their own nature unless they enjoy immunity from external coercion as well as psychological freedom."

This precisely demonstrates the problem. At root is a fundamentally schismatic disposition that is contrary to the nature of orthodox Christianity. It’s Enthusiasm pure and simple, that is, Modernism, and more precisely, Americanism.

@GreeneMan6 I hate to give Trent Horn so much cred, but this literally sounds like Socrates talking to Thrasymachus in the Republic or his arguments with Gorgias. There's no bottom to this. We just go around and around and around because the conclusion is already decided.

I saw this video on my feed and I knew exactly what I was getting. ExTrad: “I was a super devout Catholic, but then I saw facts I couldn’t refute, so now I am a gay atheist.” Trent Horn: “So which core Catholic claims do you think are wrong?” ET: “It wasn’t specific truth claims, it was just the certainty that was required for belief. I can’t have that level of certainty, life is complicated!” TH: “There are lots of moderate progressive churches that allow for agnosticism and doubt. Did you not join them?” ET: “That’s the problem. I am too familiar with the trad arguments against progressive Christianity to ever join them. I take abstract arguments very seriously!” TH: “Well that’s good. Since we are here to talk about sex, have you considered these abstract arguments against consent-only sexual ethics based on edge cases we would agree on?” ET: “No Trent, not really. These arguments are all too abstract. I don’t like abstract arguments, I just care about data. Hard facts. Zoophillia, incest and polygamy don’t happen in real life.” TH: “So what about all of these numbers showing the negative consequences of promiscuity?” ET: “Well we could have a conversation about that. We could, but that would distract from the real conversation about homosexuality.” TH: “Ok well we have data on the negative consequences of homosexuality.” ET: “I don’t see how that’s relevant. Hypothetically gay sex could be safe. We should just focus on getting people to be safe” TH: “Could be stigmatize unsafe sex practices?” ET: “we can’t bully people.” TH: “could we stigmatize racism?” ET: “That’s just accountability, and all the data is on my side!” TH: “Speaking of data to you oppose trans-women in female sports given the data we have on it?” ET: “We have that conversation. We could. But isn’t that kind of a distraction from the larger abstract point about trans dignity?” TH: “Well we also have data that shows transitioning has negative consequences.” ET: “That data is flawed. And all the studies support me.” TH: “Yeah most of your studies have huge sample biases.” ET: “Sure we could talk about that. We could. But that would just distract from The abstract point that people should have rights and dignity”

@lukei4655 Wouldn't every grave reason also be a just one? If the reason is just, isn't it tautological that he is excused?

Does a man satisfy his Mass obligation, on a day of precept, if he leaves Mass early for no just or grave reason? I’m inclined to think not.

😐One of the saddest casualties of transnational racial marxism / woke tyranny is Ireland - a tiny country of indigenous natives whose ancestors never colonized anyone & who have lived on their lands for thousands of years but are now being asked to give up their ancestral heritage to the third world essentially because they physically resemble the group targeted by elites to be the bottom of their newly-designed racial heirarchy

@lymanstoneky Cars are a big deal. Once you get above three, and really above two, you can't drive a standard sedan anymore and fit everyone. Once you get above 5, you're taking two cars everywhere or leaving some at home.

Statistically, having a child tends to cause an upward revision in desired family size, and people who overshoot initial family size see relatively more positive happiness changes in the life course. They don’t birth max, however, because health and life course dynamics are unforgiving no matter how happy you are with your kids.
Aella@Aella_Girl

parents say having a kid is the best friggin thing ever, you should absolutely do it, don't wait till you have 'enough money', etc. so i'm a lil confused why parents don't have as many kids as they can? You'd think once you know how great it is you'd try to go hard

@LandonTengwall @anthony_civi I don't see an order certifying a class so I'm not sure that's right. Just filing a putative class action doesn't create a class of plaintiffs.

NCAA, a class-action lawsuit challenging the current Redshirt Rule - is set for Monday, Dec. 15 (tomorrow) If granted, TRUE seniors (played 4 seasons in 4 years) would gain a 5th year of eligibility. On Penn State's roster, expect guys like Drew Allar & Kaytron Allen to be interested observers of this case

@lukei4655 Also, in the US, the availability of student loans makes going to college easier and a default decision, but then in turn makes it harder to enter religious life with debt.

I agree with her, in part. But I honestly think it has more to do more with three simple things: 1. Delayed adolescence 2. Commitment paralysis 3. Comfort culture

Is there a definitive cause for the collapse in religious vocations? In this Pints With Aquinas episode, host Matt Fradd asks Sister Miriam Heidland, SOLT, a pressing question: Why are there so few religious sisters today? “I think part of it is the attack on spiritual motherhood and spiritual fatherhood…really, it’s the attack on man and woman, and like, who are we?” she begins. Sister Miriam then shares a personal story and offers her opinion on why there are fewer vocations to the religious life today. “I was talking with the bishop many months ago, and he was saying that in the 1960s…there was a religious community in Wisconsin that was receiving a hundred women a year. 100 women! And they built a brand new novitiate, and then by 1972, they were receiving just four,” she says. At this point in her conversation with the bishop, Sister Miriam says, he posed the question: “Women still have the capacity to say ‘yes’ to this divine invitation. What is preventing them?” Sister Miriam tells Matt Fradd that she believes the answer to this question revolves around the sexual revolution of the 1950s and 60s. “You had kind of an American cultural revolution. You had a difference of just the changing of the nuclear family, you had Vatican II coming out,” she explains. Sister Miriam mentions the decline in catechesis during this period. There were also misunderstandings around the feminine genius amid the feminist revolution, which also contributed to this decline in vocations to the consecrated life. “This is not about going back to some kind of supposed golden era of the past…The church is asking us as religious women to be real mothers, to live in the truth of who we are, and to be able to give Christ to the people,” Sister Miriam tells Fradd. She also believes that parental approval is another major obstacle today. “I remember even when I became a religious sister, my mom and dad were very faithful Catholics…and people still came up to her–and that was in the 1990s–saying like, ‘What’s wrong with your daughter? Didn’t she have a boyfriend? Like, what’s wrong with her?’” Sister Miriam explains that since the social acceptance of religious vocations does not provide a reason for answering the Lord’s call, it truly comes down to the willingness to give one’s entire life to Jesus. “It’s really like stripping it down to like, 'what is my motivation and what is Jesus calling me to,'” Sister Miriam concludes. @FrHilderbrand "this assessment is strongly maintained, although it does not at present allow for a definitive judgment to be formulated, as is the case with priestly ordination." "At present" at least implies they think they have that power.

@CatholicSmark @M_P_Hazell Have any dispensations for priests ordained after TC been granted? I don't recall anything but permissions being given for a particular parish to continue to be used, but not who is allowed to celebrate.

So in other words.... they're moving TC to hospice care. If a Bishop doesn't want to comply with TC, he's under no obligation to do so, just ask for an exemption and its granted. This is how you slowly kill legislation.
