🔦💡 Do at-home LED masks really work for acne? And which ones work best? Our team led by @sherryershadi set out to answer these questions in two companion studies that just published in @JAMADerm and the International Journal of Dermatology (see thread):

Thank you, Dominique. The latest updates on ultrasound diagnostic criteria and severity scoring for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) were published last year. Our group first introduced the ultrasound diagnostic criteria and severity scoring (SOS-HS) over ten years ago. These criteria and scoring have been internationally validated in the Delphi study consensus published earlier this year. The newly published modified scoring system for assesing the degree of inflammatory activity of HS (mUS-HSA) is an updated version of the previous one, designed to be more user-friendly for counting lesions. Certainly, utilizing ultrasound for early diagnosis, severity scoring, and assessment of inflammatory activity should be standard practice in managing HS. This approach could significantly reduce the rate of late diagnoses and improve overall management, besides support clinical trials in this devastating disease. #HidradenitisSuppurativa #ultrasound #dermatologicultrasound @xworts @sonoskin

This game-changing article reshaped clinical conversations around acne and diet. With data linking low and nonfat dairy to worsening acne, dermatologists now have firmer ground for dietary recommendations. bit.ly/44GsJSu

The reason why it will take a while for AI to replace biologists, however, is based on a flaw in the system. Negative data is almost never reported. Yet this is precisely what drives our know-how and long term success.
Derya Unutmaz, MD@DeryaTR_

Gates is correct: within a decade, up to 80-90% of doctors, teachers, professors, engineers or lawyers will be replaced by AI. The remaining professionals will focus on aiding AI to make discoveries, create new knowledge & to keep it aligned to benefit humans in these fields.

@JAMADerm 🙏 @JAMADerm and authors. In short. Future of #dermatology is not abt man vs. machine - it’s about synergy. Dermatologists will become more data-augmented, not less relevant. The challenge will be ensuring #AI enhances equity, accuracy, trust, rather than introducing new risks.

New RCT showing 3D total body photography + usual care vs usual care leads to MORE benign biopsies and LESS melanomas diagnosed (although not statistically significant). Surprise the point estimate was even in the "less" direction 🤯 Wrote an editorial: jamanetwork.com/journals/jamad…

RCT: Adding 3D total-body photography and sequential digital dermoscopy imaging to usual care for high-risk melanoma patients increased the number of skin excisions and biopsies. ja.ma/4j70tfW
