@madcowpanzer This is the worst argument against "just being yourself" I have ever heard. The preferences of the person giving the advice literally doesn't matter. The advice is not meant to make the most people possible like you. It is to find someone actually who likes you.

Besides, if most of the people who say this found out you were sexist or something, they'd change their tune real fast to "you wouldn't think that if you had a girlfriend" or "no wonder you're still single". So much for just being yourself.

So, regarding people who say "just be yourself" to attract women and their fate in the mosquito reserve. There are two reasons really why this is bad advice: 1) It's a cliche and is mostly unhelpful 2) It misses the point and the real issues plaguing modern dating

The "postmodern understanding of truth" is literally nothing more than the understanding of truth that came from critical engagement with modern science. It is not so much that this is the account of truth in general or that the platonic tradition is wrong but that a framework like Foucault or Lyotard is what you end up with if you take the prestige fields of expertise on their own word. If you want it more elegantly and sharply stated you can just read Kuhn and Feyerabend who will lay it out without having to translate it into French first. It's ridiculous to rehearse the science wars from the '90s but then to conclude from the process that the scientific side of the dispute is simply in direct line with both Thomism and Theology.
