Traffic would not flow as freely, but Reigate town centre would be attractive and the businesses would come back. Seems like something the council should be debating?

@duncanbourne2 @_JonathanEssex @reigatebanstead @SurreyCouncil I sort of recall it's because of required standards of space for lorries passing each other on bends. For cars it's easy but Reigate is on 3 "A" roads so longest lorries must fit.

Agree. Could look at traffic options to make Reigate town centre better. The road just north of the town centre past @reigatebanstead town hall has safeguarded land around the North side so perhaps @SurreyCouncil could do this.

It is high time for the EU to PROHIBIT all imports of Russian gas in any form - LNG or piped gas. Hungary, Slovakia and Austria need to stop their importation of Russian gas through pipelines at the end of 2024. All EU imports of Russian LNG should be proscribed end 2024.

I’m finding it very difficult to muster an argument against this.

China's first CAP1400 has entered commercial operation. It's construction began in June 2019. A construction time of just over 5 years is pretty damn good for a FOAK reactor! Article link in reply. They expect to achieve a build time of 50 months (just over 4 years) for subsequent plants. According to the article: "The CAP1400 is an enlarged version of the CAP1000 PWR developed from the Westinghouse AP1000, with consulting input from the USA-based company." So, does this mean that China will not be allowed to sell, and build, CAP1400 reactors abroad? The article's byline suggests that China is expecting to export them. I hope they can and will. I get the concept of intellectual property rights, and understand that the West is trying to reign in China's influence (in the nuclear power sphere, and in general). But it's frustrating that the people who know how to build plants quickly at a low cost may not be allowed to build plants around the world. It's one more way in which nuclear just can't get a break.
