@ADHalliwell @Just1nHS It will be interesting to watch as the trend for floor cover of any type increases. Cultivation for air drainage and frost protection is often overlooked as a historical driver, competition being the first but in vit it’s always pretty complicated.

@Just1nHS Before this change of thinking, what would have been the reason for cover crops making frost damage more likely?

We always used to be told that cover crops made frost damage more likely, but this seems to back up data I have seen from Frédéric Thomas that vegetation buffers temperature extremes? @RegenViti

@peterarijs Interesting about the tilling. Perhaps if tilled and rolled to compact the soil might have held more latent heat to reduce the effect..

@maxallenwine @DodgesFerry @jamiegoode Hi, thx max had to dust off the twitter! Try this one on, quite approachable: Mycorrhizal Planet: How Symbiotic Fungi Work with Roots to Support Plant Health and Build Soil Fertility. Michael Phillips.

@maxallenwine @jamiegoode I have seen articles about soil fungi communicating with plants but can’t locate. Can either of you assist with my search please?

“The vines that were sent up there will be planted back in Bordeaux, and this will become a new variety of vine and it will remain resistant.” This is bonkers!!

@jamiegoode @JohnInnesCentre @sabrosiavit @gregorygambetta @visualviti Perennial plants changing growth attributes durning dormancy? I’m not sure how this would work after a stint in space. Even more so how the influence of microgravity affects only headline grabbing positive traits. It would affect orientation tropisms but these would revert.

@ADHalliwell Are then all on one side? Dropping sunburn costs a bit but means it’s not picked, by hand or machine…

Am seeing a reasonable amount of dropped fruit around #Rioja. Always a bit of a shock, especially here as the yield didn't look so big and the canopy doesn't look stressed. No doubt they had a very good reason, as it costs you money to do it and you have less grapes left!

The training rings worked quite well this year to keep shoots vertical and buds facing out on the young bush vines. Probably another year should do be sufficient to aid setting up good structures. #bushvines #pruning #viticulture

@katerina_brv @ADHalliwell @sabrosiavit Missed this one, just looks like it’s been ‘de-leafed’ to expose the bunches. Possibly for extra colour and disease management. That being said they look extra low as they are v low/short bush vines so it makes all the fruit concentrate in one place.

@ADHalliwell @sabrosiavit @dylgrigg Looks lots of canopy too, but it doesn't do anything to grapes?🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm just learning but I see very different approaches even here in Cotswolds

@CampdEstrelles So many pic of them as ladybugs and positive in vineyards, sure some biodiversity is but it’s like the picture of virus riddled leaves in autumn. Kind of amusing.

Often confused with Ladybirds, this Short-Horned Leaf Beetle is a #plague in the #vineyard here, as it does exactly as its name says and consumes leaves at an alarming rate if left unchecked. Non-chemical pest control is quite literally a cup of soapy water and fingers... 🍇👊😉

Who was the viticultural consultant on Star Trek Picard? Apparently in the 24th century grapes are harvested about 2 weeks after budburst… by transporter (that’s cool) and they are the size of plums… #viticulture #StarTrekPicard
