Our departure from tradition: Traditional architecture treats the rocket as a workhorse and the satellite as freight. At Cowboy Space, we will integrate a megawatt-class data center directly into the upper stage of our launch vehicle. By eliminating redundant mass, we can dedicate every possible kilogram to high-performance AI compute.

I’m super excited to share that we have signed a contract with @SpaceX @Starlink to integrate its mini laser terminals onto our satellites for high bandwidth, low latency connectivity!

Starcloud@Starcloud_

Starcloud is excited to announce that we will integrate 50 @SpaceX @Starlink Mini Laser terminals across 25+ satellites.  Each of the @Starcloud_ satellites will carry two Starlink Mini Laser terminals, and the first hardware is expected on orbit within one year. Starlink Mini Laser terminals, the same laser crosslink technology that SpaceX developed for its Starlink constellation, provide up to 25 Gbps of continuous intersatellite connectivity at distances up to 4,000 km and are capable of higher link speeds at shorter distances. The terminals enable direct optical links between Starcloud satellites and the Starlink constellation using laser light, eliminating the need for Starcloud to send data directly through bandwidth-constrained ground stations.

america can do this too with private capital from vc to growth equity. you allocate a shitload of money to vastly improve a production method beyond the leverage of cheap abundant labor, and you scale it rapidly. welcome to trillion dollar companies of the future.

Former Tesla President @jonmcneill breaks down China's strategy to dominate the global auto industry: Every five years, China selects five industries to enter and dominate. They subsidize ~100 market entrants, and let competition play out. That gets whittled down to the top 3–5 winners. In this case: BYD, Geely, and NIO. Then they consolidate capacity under those winners—effectively handing them the infrastructure built by the entire field—and tell them: your job now is to export and dominate these markets. "So—they've gotten subsidies to get started, subsidies to operate and now they're getting capacity for free. And they've proven themselves as the winners in a hyper competitive market. And now they go enter the rest of the world where the competitors are soft." "That's their formula, and they run this formula across all kinds of industries: solar panels, TVs, bicycles, and electric cars. It's a very powerful flywheel."

This video is one of the best examples of The Great Differentiation I've seen since writing that essay last year. It's just so specifically weird in a way that's consistent with Baiju's other videos. He consistently Teammogs. Wrote up some notes: notboring.co/p/cowboy-space…

Yesterday at 3pm ish we got 5 orders totalling $72,000. The fellas looked at each other and realized the day was just starting. Customers needed it asap. They were already 7 hours into their day, and ended up staying until 3:06am to finish the job. By the morning, our truck driver got in at 7:41am and delivered all the orders. I couldn’t think of another metals service center that could’ve got that done. Another win for manufacturers in America. To keep the machines moving, make more parts, and at a price that worked.

SITUATION EXPLAINED: @CowboySpaceCorp (fka Aetherflux) raises $275M From founder @BaijuBhatt (prev co-founder of Robinhood): "Our mission is to power humanity from the high frontier." "The concept is about building data centers in space. You can use the stage mass, the actual structure of the upper stage of the rocket to do the job of data centers in space." "You can reuse that mass and volume for the radiator, where our concept calls for actually deploying out the fairing of the rocket as a big radiator." "By going with one monolithic satellite, which is the upper stage of the rocket, you get more GPUs that are interconnected." "So rather than distributing it out over a bunch of smaller satellites, the simplest way to kind of think about that is if you had two racks of GPU servers, one was in this building and one was in that building across the street, that strictly worse than them being in the same building." @emmysteuer
