Long waits are horrible for patients and risky too. Our new report, "The Longest Wait" reveals that older people are having to use bedpans in corridors, and can't access food or water while they wait. Read more about Corridor Care & how we can fix it: ageuk.org.uk/siteassets/doc…

I know I'm in a minority, and they look pretty, but I just can't stop hating waterfall charts. I just find them so unintuitive to interpret.

Interesting to read Caroline Criado Perez's position on assisted dying. She ends with a call to support Age UK's work, acknowledging the many gender inequalities throughout life which can lead to older women needing support
Samira Ahmed@SamiraAhmedUK

Why are so many feminist women expressing deep distrust of the Assisted Dying Bill? The latest Invisible Women newsletter from the brilliant Caroline Criado Perez is a terrific read.. newsletter.carolinecriadoperez.com/?r=7ad29

@paullewismoney Morning Paul. My brilliant colleague at Age UK, @PaulieTandoori, tells me that this isn't correct, and that as long as a person is aged over the State Pension age (and doesn't have a partner aged under State Pension age) the income threshold is the same.

That is not the threshold for most pensioners. Those who reached pension age before 6 April 2016 have a higher threshold - see below. The constant use of the lower threshold helps put people off claiming.

@GunnKit @paullewismoney @Woodysj @policy_practice The problem lies with defining who "needs it". At the moment we have a situation where anyone even a few pence above the Pension Credit cut-off of £218.15 pw is considered well-off and resilient enough to cope without a payment considered vital to someone just a few pence poorer.

The government knew 83% (2.6m) over-80s, 780,000 poorest pensioners and 1.6m disabled pensioners would not be protected when it scrapped Winter Fuel Payment, FOI reveals bit.ly/3XGIRzy

@Car_Abrahams We'd have expected to see about 19k applications during that period anyway - only half of the applications are 'extra'

2.Yesterday’s HMG contribution to public knowledge was to announce 38k Pension Credit claims since the WFP announcement. They forgot to mention that 880k households aren’t taking up the benefit however!

1.Rather disappointing that HMG is spinning next year’s triple lock increase as the answer to pensioner hardship this winter. Doesn’t come in until April, most pensioners are on the old State Pension so won’t get as much, not all get the full SP anyway.

@nationalrailenq I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it hasn't helped. Please hurry with your rollout! I've had to use @thetrainline to check train times, and their app just isn't as good for that

@e_a_webb Hi Libby, I'm sorry to hear this, apologies for the issues. We are in the process of a new app rollout that each customer should have by 30 September. Do you have the latest version of the app please? Perhaps an update/reinstalment may fix this issue?

If a pensioner is entitled to Pension Credit but does not claim it, then they will tend to have a low income. For this reason, the WFP change hits poorer families hardest: pensioners in the bottom 5th of the income distribution will lose 1.2% of their income on average.
