I have this theory that a huge amount of the decline in sex is the decline in overall fitness. I don't mean being overweight so much as general cardio. Humans, historically, walked and moved a LOT, everyday. Modern humans are incredibly sedentary, whereas sex is... cardio. I think fitness has caused a decline in testosterone as well, which is a major factor, but I also think people are just... tired and sex demands more effort than they can summon. More so, trying and being unable to perform or being easily exhausted is... humiliating. This is most readily obvious in men, but we ignore that it's a huge factor for women too, especially when trying to orgasm. A lot of women struggle to orgasm in part due to poor cardiovascular health but also pelvic floor (and surrounding core) muscle strength. This simple lack of fitness, I believe, has made sex less fun and more stressful, which in turn diminishes interest in it. Now, I don't think it's the sole or even major factor. I just think it's the least discussed one.
