I don't post here any more, and rarely check it, but if you're considering making a move to a different platform and want to know where the A Level Maths people are hanging out, a lot of them are here. Come join us! go.bsky.app/znERv2

@GrahamGiles7 @thokennedy @cmdbrazenhussy I think the decision to dictate a particular make and model also comes down to the logistical problem of having multiple different types of calculator in the same class and having to teach to them all. I currently have 3 types (FX-991EX, FX-991CW and CG50) and it's a massive pain
English

@ECR_Maths @thokennedy @cmdbrazenhussy Yeah. I've seen some schools' websites where they actually tell you to get a Casio and what model it should be.
I think part of the problem is that programmables are still frowned upon in schools, and those tend to be the ones with the most advanced stat functions.
English

Teaching correlation and regression in #CoreMaths. I will never forgive Casio for bringing out 3 models of calculator with a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT set of steps for every function 😩 Every new thing now has to be taught 3 ways. Ughhh. I used to enjoy teaching this topic 😆

English

@GrahamGiles7 @thokennedy @cmdbrazenhussy Casio seems to have the monopoly. I've no idea if the other makes even have all the required functions (such as the statistical distributions)
English

@thokennedy @ECR_Maths @cmdbrazenhussy Does it have to be Casio in schools now? Other makes are available, such as Sharp, Texas and Hewlett Packard.
English

@DrBennison This sounds great! I'm sure my students would enjoy doing it 😊
English

@Fellermaths @CasioMaths Sigh... that's annoying. Especially given how much money they're making from teachers and students buying their products. Thanks!
English

@ECR_Maths @CasioMaths You will be lucky to get anything, I'm afraid. Have tried emails, contact forms, and Twitter – all met with complete radio silence. Works for me – I just stopped buying their products!

Hi @CasioMaths, when I visit this link on my phone it gives a list of upcoming webinars (teacher and student) However, when I go to the same link on my laptop it says there are no upcoming webinars available. Is this a glitch? Thank you.

@missradders @MissMoss_Moose I have two teacher besties who work at different schools, and if any of us message the group chat with "Cheeky carvery?" we all know it means we need to meet after work one evening asap at a local pub to get food and have a good old rant about everything 😄 It's so therapeutic.
English

@TheMathsBazaar @t0nyyates I get that the hashtags and regular posting on a theme can be a lot, but in the absence of an algorithm directing you to posts, the tags and feeds make it easier to curate your own own content feed. Personally, I prefer it, but it's not for everyone.
English

@TheMathsBazaar @t0nyyates I've really enjoyed reading (and sometimes contributing to) posts and threads that you've been involved in on here over the last few years. I just think it's a shame that you'd rather sneer at those types of conversations now, rather than continue to engage with the same people.
English

@marcmaths No algorithms, no hoards of bots, no repetitive adverts for things I don't want to buy, no people being edgy just for attention... even looking at the "Most relevant replies" filter on this post makes me realise how much less toxic it is over there 😄
English

@mrsjmillar @MrChapmanMaths Did Elon take over Casio when he took over Twitter?
It would explain a lot of the terrible changes... 😅
English

@MrChapmanMaths @ECR_Maths Hate Classpad. Bring back emulators- then you just have the one(s) you need not Arabic, Japanese, Spanish…
English

@JohnRubinstein1 I don't know, when I say "public schools" I mean Eton and Harrow and Westminster, not the independent schools in Hull. That might just be me!
English

@ECR_Maths Is that right? I thought that independent, private, public all meant the same thing. Someone told me that they are called public because they were open to anyone to apply to join, unlike the old religious schools run by monasteries, back in the days before state education.
English

@missradders @mathsjem We get automated email feedback from learning walks (3 short questions about whether students were engaged, what type of activity was going on, etc, and a free text box with a little comment)
I prefer it to getting face to face feedback, because it doesn't take any of my time.
