Comrade Hakim Akandonda led the charge with the NRM youth squad, and the campus was ELECTRIC from morning till evening. The war cry that shook every lecture hall, every corridor, every WhatsApp group: PROTECT THE GAINS — NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER! Protecting the Gains: Youth and Institutions Dialogue at IUIU Mbale Today at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Mbale Campus, Comrade Babu Emmanuel, together with the Youth and Institutions Team, held a timely and strategic engagement focused on one critical question: how the youth can protect, consolidate, and advance the gains achieved under the NRM government. The discussion brought together committed young leaders, student representatives, and institutional voices who reflected deeply on the journey Uganda has taken and the responsibility that now rests on the shoulders of the youth. The meeting emphasized that the gains of stability, peace, and national cohesion did not come by accident, but through deliberate leadership, sacrifice, and long-term planning. Participants highlighted key achievements of the NRM government that must be safeguarded and strengthened, including: Sustained peace and security, which has enabled learning institutions, businesses, and communities to thrive without fear. Expanded access to education, marked by the growth of universities, tertiary institutions, and government-supported programs that have empowered thousands of young Ugandans. Improved infrastructure, including roads, electricity extension, and ICT connectivity, which has opened up regions like Eastern Uganda to investment and opportunity. Youth-focused programs such as skilling initiatives, entrepreneurship support, and affirmative action frameworks aimed at integrating young people into the national economy. Institutional stability and governance, which has allowed dialogue, civic engagement, and orderly political participation to take place. Comrade Babu Emmanuel emphasized that protecting these gains does not mean silence or complacency, but constructive engagement, vigilance, and responsible leadership by the youth. He called upon young people to be active participants in nation-building, to defend truth, and to resist manipulation that undermines national unity. The team expressed profound gratitude to Rtd. Maj. Rabwoni for his invaluable guidance, mentorship, and leadership throughout the engagement. His seasoned perspective reminded the youth that every generation has a duty to preserve what has been built, correct what is weak, and pass on a stronger nation to the next.
