President Trump's call to exclude those without legal status from the census would mean millions of people living in America go uncounted, reshaping the contours of the country’s congressional districts. Opponents argue that it would violate the 14th Amendment’s requirement that the allocation of congressional seats be determined by “counting the whole number of persons in each state.” @johnyangtv speaks to @hansilowang for more.

@NewsHour I really don’t understand. If someone is here illegally, why would they be considered in a census?

@NewsHour If DT wants to have a census outside of the rules of the Constitution he should have to pay for it himself.

@CongressmanRaja The Constitution is clear, the post Cival War Amendments made every recently freed slave count as a whole person and placed them under the jurisdiction of the US government. It says nothing about millions of illegal aliens.

President Trump cannot unilaterally order a new census or exclude people to rig the Electoral College. The Constitution is clear: every person counts. This is a brazen power grab to manipulate representation and undermine our democracy. politico.com/news/2025/08/0…

So here is your Saturday question: Does American get it yet? Do we — by which I mean citizens, institutions, and former guardrails — understand the full scope of what is happening? Do the courts, businesses, law firms, universities, media companies get it yet? open.substack.com/pub/charliesyk…

"Dude's wife died of cancer last month. And you're firing him because he did his job? You're firing him without eligibility for retirement benefits? And you think that you're the ones that back the blue?" If that sounds crazy to you, you're not Kash Patel. @Timodc:

@BulwarkOnline @Timodc In our democracy, a dedicated public servant who lost his wife to cancer is denied his earned retirement. This betrayal endangers fairness. True strength lies in compassion, not punitive actions. We must stand for what’s right.

Letter from FBI Director Kash Patel firing veteran FBI agent Walter Giardina, whose wife died of cancer last month at age 49. Patel accuses this agent, a Marine combat veteran, of “weaponization.” Many of his FBI colleagues told me he did his job scrupulously and ethically.

George Will’s column today “Five Ways …” like most columns addressing the national debt never touches the Military Budget - a good part of the reason for our escalating debt.

@cspanwj all this talk about redistricting to “guarantee” their party will win ignores the numbers Majority (219) Republican (219) Minority (212) Democratic (212) Vacant (4) Vacant (4 Some of us are wondering why the R’s think they need more seats!

@cspanwj Do the parties assume that by redistricting they’ll always win? I’m sure there are voters all over the U.S. who assume that’s the case. But I’m guessing w DT being so erratic and R members of Congress voting in lock step there’s a big chance that angry voters will vote D!

@CrocDLord @peaheron @MorePerfectUS I looked up. Quite a few of the states are still at $7.25/hr including my own cheapskate state of NH. Unlikely anyone actually works for that though!

Nobody makes $7/hr anymore. We don’t live in 2019. Due to Covid eveyones wages went up because big corporations used that as an incentive for people to come back to work. But, it raised the prices for everyone else on everything. They’ll get paid more money if they get themselves a marketable skill.

How often do you hear that deaths from extreme weather have been falling by a stone for a century? ... we're promoting an alarmist view of climate change."

@r_maedje @cfishman I’m always interested in commenters who have a zero background in science who are telling us we should believe that person rather than those affected - farmers and those whose expertise is in climate studies.

Because they were replaced with newer versions... That said, we still monitor global temps and CO2 with stats, but we now know after 40 years of climate research that CO2 has absolutely NOTHING to do with fluctuations in global temperatures- nada, zippo, zilch, ZERO. So there's that.

Two satellites have changed the game in the last 10 years for farmers, scientists, oil & gas companies, other companies. They are the OCO satellites—Orbiting Carbon Observatories. Used daily. The Trump Administration has ordered one destroyed, the other turned off. Why? —>
