Why does #bushmeat consumption persist along the Kenya-Tanzania border, despite serious health risks? Ahead of @ICCB2025, I reflect on this in light of our upcoming Forest to Fork panel on disease risk mitigation. #onehealth #diseaserisks #zoonoses @OHRECA_ILRI @ILRI

Trump says the DCA plane collision was due to DEI, Obama and Biden. I guess we don’t need the NTSB to do anything.

As we tackle global health security challenges, preparedness, innovation, and collaboration remain essential. Today, Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, welcomed Former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Chief Guest at the second day of the East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit in Mombasa. During the plenary session, Dr. Barasa emphasized the need to strengthen health systems to bridge public health and healthcare delivery. Kenya is investing in modern healthcare infrastructure, enhancing workforce capacity, and fostering public-private partnerships to drive innovation. Community-based initiatives like Community Health Promoters (CHPs) are making a significant impact, ensuring health resilience at the grassroots level. The summit’s theme, "Securing health and prosperity one community at a time," highlights the vital role of every community in shaping the future of health security. Kenya remains committed to regional collaboration, improved surveillance, and local manufacturing of medical products to ensure Africa’s self-sufficiency.

Speaking on the impact of these developments, Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, acknowledged the longstanding partnership between Kenya and the United States, which has played a critical role in strengthening HIV programs, disease prevention, and health system resilience. “Kenya has made remarkable progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS, with 98% of people living with HIV aware of their status and on treatment, and 94% achieving viral suppression. The Ministry is actively engaging with other development partners and investing in local pharmaceutical manufacturing to prevent treatment disruptions,” said Dr. Amoth. The Ministry is also strengthening regional collaborations and alternative health financing mechanisms to ensure continued access to lifesaving medications and healthcare services for people living with HIV.
