Just dropped an update for my Flutter package, loadable_buttons! 🎯 #flutterdev Simple loading indicators on buttons. Not a fan of UI packages myself, but it's handy to have one to copy-paste from. Check it out! 👇 pub.dev/packages/loada…

The non-English tax is real. Sutton's Bitter Lesson, translated across languages and normalized to OpenAI English token count: Hindi: OpenAI 1.37×, Anthropic 3.24× Arabic: OpenAI 1.31×, Anthropic 2.86× Chinese: OpenAI 1.15×, Anthropic 1.71× Claude’s tokenizer charges a much higher linguistic tax.

@github Will there be any other differences between the $10 plan and the $39 plan besides token usage? What’s the advantage of paying $39/month if users can just pay $10 + extra tokens?

Starting June 1st, GitHub Copilot will move to a usage-based billing model as GitHub Copilot supports more agentic and advanced workflows. In early May, you'll see a preview bill experience, giving visibility into projected costs before the transition. 👉 Read more about the upcoming change: github.blog/news-insights/…

@abhijithmb666 @Null_Lex @WindowsLatest Redesigning a screen with just icons shouldn’t break any functionality. If Microsoft can’t do that, it’s like they’re saying Windows is written so badly that they can’t even update the UI of the old Control Panel...

@Null_Lex @WindowsLatest I get what you mean, but doing it requires rewriting legacy old code, which could break something. Also, they'd have to code anyway for the Settings app, so double the work with extra risk. Instead, it's a better idea to just move all settings from Control Panel to Settings app.

Microsoft explains why it still can’t fully kill Control Panel in Windows 11. According to the company’s design lead, the reason is simple: Windows still has to support a huge mix of older network devices, printer drivers, and legacy hardware that could break if Microsoft gets too aggressive. That is why Control Panel continues to survive even as Settings expands. In other words, Microsoft does want Windows 11 Settings to replace more of the old experience, but it also knows that millions of users still depend on the deeper controls and compatibility that the 40-year-old Control Panel provides. Do you prefer Control Panel over Windows Settings?

@k8lovett At this point it should be disabled by default, at least not using that old one when useMaterial3: true

Actually - you can disable this globally through theme! 💙 gist.github.com/Piinks/404224b…

Flutter Pro Tips #8: Disable Material splash effects If you want a clean, custom look in your Flutter app, you'll probably want to get rid of Material's default ripple effects. But it's not a one-line change. With Material 3, splash effects moved from global ThemeData to individual component themes. Guide link in first comment 👇🏻

I switched my backend from NestJS → HonoJS. At first, it felt amazing. ⚡ Faster dev speed ⚡ Snappier performance ⚡ Less boilerplate I shipped faster. I felt smarter. But then reality kicked in. My app now has 360k users 10k+ daily active users And here’s the crazy part: For the last 4+ months ❌ No backend updates ❌ No hotfixes ❌ No midnight debugging ❌ Zero crashes That backend was… NestJS. That’s when I realized something important: Speed helps you launch. Stability keeps you alive. So for my next apps, I’m going back to NestJS. Not because it’s trendy. Not because it’s the fastest. But because when real users show up, boring, stable tech wins. Shipping fast is cool. Sleeping well is cooler. 😄

I love Flutter. But it's package ecosystem to too fragmented with a new state management library popping up seemingly everyday that defines app architecture. React too has many state management libraries but the difference is that all of them use hooks. We need a standard too

@ASalvadorini @arturdsslva @exabyt3_ I’d love to see Flutter include Provider and StateNotifier functionality directly in the framework, if devs need something more complex, they can still use Riverpod, Bloc, or other solutions

@arturdsslva @exabyt3_ You can do it with InheritedWidget, but that's clumsy, so you'll end up abstracting it, so you'll end up re-implementing Provider. But Riverpod is Provider 2.0, so maybe you'll want to try that instead of Provider, but you'll see the latter is much more complex and wider ... ⬇️

That wouldn't really solve the problem since selectable texts next to each other are not contiguously selectable without a selectable region wrapping them. HTML has different defaults, but anyone doing web apps eventually has to do user-select: none on a bunch of interface elements or you end up with things like double clicking a button selecting the text in the button. I have mixed feelings on whether the Flutter defaults are correct here. Definitely making all text selectable by default would probably introduce as many problems as it solves.

Maybe not so relevant for most things, but I like this programming language performance test video way too much, so here is a random repost of it😅 Incidentally @dart_lang is doing reasonably OK in it and gets a new version today v3.10 with quarterly #FlutterDev drop v3.38💙😃
Ben Dicken@BenjDicken

Over the past 8 days, I received over 100 PRs on the languages repo with additions and improvements. - A bunch of languages were added - Some implementations got tweaks to modify performance - The run script now uses hyperfine for timing Thanks to all the contributors.

@mraleph @AymenMak84548 @mickrich384 @shiweidu I understand. I just wish there were a standardized, non-bottom Sentinel class in the framework or language so package maintainers could adopt a common way for users to pass “nothing” to functions or classes

@ektordev @AymenMak84548 @mickrich384 @shiweidu Flutter can't. That's not how Dart's type-system works. The only bottom type (i.e. type assignable to any other type) in Dart is Never - which has no instances. Flutter can't just add `class Sentinel` and say "well, it's also a bottom type now". Not possible.

github.com/dart-lang/lang… If you don't understand why JavaScript has `undefined`, please take a look at this. In Dart, it's impossible to distinguish whether something has been passed or not, especially when implementing `cipyWith`. I really desperately need Sentinel values. #Dart
