Starting June 1st, GitHub Copilot will move to a usage-based billing model as GitHub Copilot supports more agentic and advanced workflows. In early May, you'll see a preview bill experience, giving visibility into projected costs before the transition. 👉 Read more about the upcoming change: github.blog/news-insights/…

GitHub Copilot switching to usage-based AI Credits… and yeah, good luck if you’re doing a lot of agentic stuff. Meanwhile, OpenAI is still keeping ChatGPT Plus and Pro on straightforward monthly subscriptions with pretty generous limits. No surprise bills for most people. Smart move holding the line while everything else is getting more expensive. Who else is thinking about canceling Copilot?

@github I understand that premium request billing can be abused, but your updated pricing makes no sense. Why would anyone pay for Pro+ over Pro if there's no volume discount? Honestly, what's the point of using Copilot at all if you're just passing us the provider's API rates?

Give US one good reason to stay with y'all 1 good reason? What makes you worth investing money into you guys that other don't already do or do better then y'all? I'm extremely curious cause for me and i feel for other too the only thing that made you guys better. was the request per token and not during the workflow of the model. I really hope someone could answer this question !

@github It is hard to be mad considering the insane value the subscription has provided. My $39 subscription probably cost Microsoft $20k/month with Anthropic with how heavily I use it. Thanks for the great ride.

WOW this is officially my last month with y'all wow this is disappointing as hell, the only reason why you had customers is because you guys were more affordable. Now you're going to do it like cursor and codex. Their's no reason to stay with y'all if its the same thing as codex and cursor. Cursor is way better / codex.

@github Buy a solid PC once instead of iPhone. Run local models forever. Models like Qwen, GLM, Kimi are already competitive with GPT/Claude on: • coding • agent workflows • reasoning No subscriptions. No API bills. Just compute.

@github Absolutely no reason to use GitHub Copilot anymore. Glad I cancelled my annual subscription last year after the greedy move to introduce the "Pro+" plan and it seems you have just confirmed that I was right. Time to try something else, perhaps @opencode 's Go plan!

@github i guess they understood that individual users are not coming for copilot and choosing codex, claude code. so they want to keep focus on enterprise users and not going to copilot individual users.

@github No sane person would pay for this... Using a basic phi model on local machine is still more useful at least it will eventually find the correct code for free lol even manually copying code/files into chat interfaces is better than paying for output thats mostly repetitive text

@github Codex it gives the most token + quality. Claude barely gives you any tokens. Cursor i haven’t used much. GitHub copilot new structure will only work for enterprises/ huge company’s. Googles ai models for coding need to be revamped for coding imo . Their UI/ Harness isn’t good.
