I wish there was a term for this: He's one of those characters that's really skilled, but gets bodied in every fight until the season finale when it matters most. He's introduced as really strong, is written as weak and incapable nearly every episode, then suddenly goated at just the right time.

And it's not like Aang knew the fire nation was coming. He didn't run from the fight he ran because his entire life was about to be upended. Korra was a 21 adult who had plenty of other adults (including her past life's own SON) to guide her but she argued and fought them at every turn.

There's scenes where Bo Lin is just throwing it all over the place too!! Like if even a drop of it gets on you that's a 3rd degree burn. Or he'll launch whole waves of it at enemies. Bo if they don't dodge that their flesh will melt off their bones and you've just brutally murdered someone.
