I hate survival games that have you drink water and eat. That's what I'm already attempting WHILE playing the game

@RyderGamingHun this made me realize that @FSSBlueFlame is already open-world, just with more loading screens😄interested in how far we can push this in godot until we need to get clever, like streaming doodads and NPCs

For a day I dared to dream big and I was planning to go with a 4 km2 map, but I quickly abandoned that, because I'd rather have a smaller and interesting map, than a vast emptiness. This is where I'm standing now. For reference 2x2 km would be around half of GTA3's map. #gamedev

97 wishlists in less than a month 🎈 No demo yet and no ads, just pure organic traffic from X and Reddit. TikTok doesn't seem to work for my game, or maybe I'm just not that good at making shorts... probably 😅 Anyway, 3 to go and we hit 100... let's go!

@rfleury without knowing much about the internals - would it make sense to stream the file in chunks, and treat each chunk as a patch? would still be IO-bound, but the time to first draw would be greatly reduced imo

Friendly reminder that I recently released Kenney Solitaire which is a free game both playable in the browser or downloadable without any of the nonsense that competing solitaire games come with! kenney.itch.io/kenney-solitai…

@SpaghetMeN0t yo damn, judging just by the footage, getting this kind of quality for 20$ at an individual license is a rip-off! good stuff, generous pricing!

Got tired from all* code hosting platforms becoming progressively enshittificated, so now I'm a proud admin of a self-hosted #forgejo server *all supporting unlimited private repos

@KenneyNL for Godot I just use the built-in editor, for everything else it's neovim. jetbrains also has some really great IDEs, best in their class

People were a little worried that I was using MS Paint for pixel art before switching. I'm almost afraid to tell I'm using Notepad++ for coding, made whole MakeRoom using it... Any better recommendations? I don't want any bells and whistles, just a super basic IDE. No AI, etc.

@KenneyNL Check out neovim, you can make it work exactly as you want with whatever features you need... If you want a decent starting point then lazyvim is a good option!

thought I'd post this mid-June because I don't know exactly when, but I started my game development journey 20 years ago! I was 9, my Dad showed me GameMaker 6, and I was hooked. I wonder what younger me would think of where I am today... never give up! never stop learning!

5-minute Diamond timelapse. I forget how much longer it takes to do complex light-transport with things like gems haha This came out pretty okay given how fast I did it - bit rough though #pixelart

@voxraygames soft is so much better to my eyes; i might be biased, im on the opinion that visually, voxels should act as huge pixels, not as cubes

A new "softer" voxel rendering style based on per voxel normals, which do y'all prefer? Left is old, right is new method.

@rebane2001 audacity has been making great strides recently and I love to see it, I think its biggest issue is people simply not knowing about the progress

@SebAaltonen @Geecube3 tbf three.js was already popular pre-AI, it was one of the go-to solutions if you wanted to do 3D in the browser without starting from scratch with webgl

@Geecube3 Yes. Today it is. But Three.js explosion happened in the past 4 months, due to LLMs cloning it for vibe coding projects.

I quickly investigated Three.js and PlayCanvas, two web renderers/engines. I was mostly interested to find out why LLM coding agents chose Three.js, making it very popular nowadays. PlayCanvas is a framework. Owns your main loop. Three.js is a composable library. You tick it.
