Elated to share that I have been promoted to Professor @livuninews. Holding complex thoughts for later. Now I'll say I feel so lucky to be part of @geodatascience full of great & supportive people doing thoughtful & impactful work. 1/2

Anyone have some digital trace demographic data on their github? I might incorporate digital demography into my Pop Data graduate seminar one week this semester but have never worked with that data. @monjalexander @ezagheni

Finally out! During the first weeks of the lockdown, w/ @UQ_sees colleagues, we worked intensively & contributed internal #migration metrics to the #EU #Demographic #Data Sheet 2020. For the 1st time it includes a sec. on internal migration! 👏data&code: bit.ly/2ZuJkXD

@elinched This is confusing me as well, particularly as our borders are now closed. It seems to be motivated by preserving our economic position but the horse has already bolted. With an economic meltdown unavoidable why not Plan A?

Why are we giving up on eradication in favour of flattening the curve? Surely being an island is a massive strategic advantage.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Overall its a thumbs up from me for The Australian Government's Planning for Australia's Future Population. I hope the proposed Centre for Population will provide a foundation for future policy and will attract bipartisan support. pmc.gov.au/sites/default/…

Let us not forget that, according to John Graunt's Bills of Mortality (for London in 1662), 51 people died of a headache.
