Ancient Viral DNA Shapes Early Embryo Development Researchers at #HelmholtzMunich & @LMU_Muenchen have uncovered the crucial role of transposable elements— ancient viral #DNA remnants— in early embryo development: 👉t1p.de/pb7sc Key insights: 🌟Ancient viral DNA, once thought to be extinct, is reactivated during the first stages of embryonic development across mammalian species. 🌟Each species expresses distinct transposable elements, which influence cellular plasticity and gene regulation. 💡This discovery opens new possibilities for manipulating cell fate and advancing stem cell research. 💬“Our findings highlight how understanding these elements can revolutionize gene regulation and cellular processes.” Prof. Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla @METorresPadilla @epigeneticsHMGU @meoomen @DiegoRTerrones @CellPressNews #EmbryoDevelopment #Genomics #ViralDNA #StemCells

Are you a Master's student with excellent CV in cancer bioinformatics who is about to defend or recently defended? Would like to do a PhD in the Nordics on cancer network modeling? I have an opportunity with tight deadline. Email your CV and motivation: med.uio.no/ncmm/english/p…

Published today! We found that cancer cells adapting to drug treatments don't simply switch from a sensitive to resistant state; instead there's a ‘resistance continuum’ of resistant phenotypes with epigenetically reprogrammed states. 🧵⬇️ nature.com/articles/s4158… @Gustavo_SFranca

@garber_manuel I'm still shocked and sad by the loss. I'll always think of him as having the sharpest Biochemistry brain, making up protocols on the fly as I've never seen, and making great cocktails too. My thoughts are with his family. Thank you for all Patrick

I want to take a moment to remember Patrick McDonel who passed yesterday. I owe much of the fun things I do in science to Patrick McDonel. He taught me to think about molecular biology and instilled the ethos of my lab. Join mein keeping his memory.

I’ve been job hunting since last summer, done four final round interviews and can’t tell you how many total interviews, and so far all I’ve managed to get hired for is a part time gig at a gelato shop… in case anyone was wondering where a STEM PhD will get ya

@luispedrocoelho @BioMickWatson @cshperspectives @wjnawrocki That is an added problem but the changes have to start somewhere. To compensate postdocs and grad students on visas journals can pay the university and they can receive it as added bonus (as I did multiple times on a J1 for teaching and TA duties)

couldn't agree more. the less 'market solutions' and more *help*/community service, the better. also can't think of a more efficient way to increase systemic inequalities in science than by paying reviewers
Richard Sever@cshperspectives

@BioMickWatson @pathogenomenick @_Faecal_Matters I get the argument but not convinced for various reasons: 1) Adds hundreds of millions of $ requirement to system (added to author fees or subscriptions - $ has to come from somewhere) 2) Not sure $ incentive motivates the right people - worry about 'free market' solution 1/n

@pafgalante: 8,000 fixed retrogene copies in human genome. ~ half show evidence of transcription in 1+ tissue (often brain, testis), at least 1/3 seem translated (ribo-seq). A subset (hundreds) are polymorphic among humans. retrogenes often overlooked in genome biology #DNASRC22

0 mortes. 2mi vacinados.
