20 years ago I was finishing my first year at @harvardmed... Never did I imagine I would be here today. Grateful to all the incredible lab members past and present, amazing mentors, remarkable colleagues, and others who have made this possible! 🙏 for all those who wrote letters!

@mithunmittir @DuttaShuvadip @ranjithpa That’s right many E-P loops don’t change even when the TADs are disrupted. So that’s why I was wondering if TADs provided that optimal space, disruption has little to no impact.

Our latest paper to wrap up the year. We propose that intersegmental jumps that leverage looped conformations of chromatin can lead to efficient search. Read the preprint at: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Led by @DuttaShuvadip & Adarshkrishnan. Fantastic collab. with @ranjithpa (1/4)

@pranithakrishna @mithunmittir @DuttaShuvadip I see it in the following way: our model predicts that disruption of the TAD structure would make target-finding sub-optimal but not impossible. Naively extrapolating it to gene expression would imply that gene expression is possible, but the kinetics of expression could change.

Gene expression involves thousands of proteins that bind DNA, yet comprehensively mapping these is challenging. We developed ChIP-DIP – a method for simultaneous, genome-wide mapping of hundreds of DNA-protein interactions in a single experiment. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I want to take a moment to remember Patrick McDonel who passed yesterday. I owe much of the fun things I do in science to Patrick McDonel. He taught me to think about molecular biology and instilled the ethos of my lab. Join mein keeping his memory.

Despite modernisation, economic growth and rising proportions of employed women in the twentieth century, for a long period of time the earnings gap between women and men hardly closed. According to 2023 economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin, part of the explanation is that educational decisions, which impact a lifetime of career opportunities, are made at a relatively young age. If the expectations of young women are formed by the experiences of previous generations – for instance, their mothers, who did not go back to work until the children had grown up – then development will be slow. #NobelPrize

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices. However, this year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child. #NobelPrize

Wow! We had the solution for preventing COVID deaths all along. Will just add that you should also avoid aging & definitely stop doing silly things like getting immuno-compromised. Also forgot to mention the one thing that actually does prevent severe outcomes - take the vaccine
