Thanks @YvetteCooperMP and @JennyChapman for our cordial and useful talks in London. UNHCR values its partnership with the UK, will remain a constructive interlocutor on asylum issues and trusts that UK support in responding to refugee and humanitarian crises will stay strong.

A durable #GazaCeasefire will bring immense relief to devastated Gaza. We rejoice with all those for whom the nightmare is over. But we must also trust that it leads to serious negotiations and to just, lasting peace for both peoples, so that no more ceasefires will be needed.

For years, millions of Syrians endured many hardships. Any hope to end that suffering is dependent on a peaceful transition in Syria and support from the international community, including to meet urgent humanitarian needs in the country.

Syria is at a crossroads between peace and war, freedom and lawlessness, prosperity and misery. For its refugees, the watershed is between repatriation and the continuation of exile. It all depends on a peaceful transition, respecting the lives and aspirations of all Syrians.

I join @antonioguterres in calling for @UNRWA’s work in the occupied Palestinian territory to continue. Otherwise millions of Palestinians will be deprived of vital support — including education and health services — which only UNRWA has the mandate and capacity to deliver.

Over 1 million people have been displaced in Lebanon by Israel's attacks on Hezbollah. Ivo Freijsen, representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Lebanon, tells #BBCWato the struggle to care of them is made worse by the bombing of a key road to Syria.

The number of people who have crossed into Syria from Lebanon fleeing Israeli airstrikes — Lebanese and Syrian nationals — has reached 100,000. The outflow continues. UNHCR is present at four crossing points alongside local authorities and @SYRedCrescent to support new arrivals.

More than 50,000 Lebanese and Syrians living in Lebanon have now crossed into Syria fleeing Israeli airstrikes. Well over 200,000 are displaced inside Lebanon. Relief operations are underway, including by UNHCR, to help all those in need, in coordination with both governments.

Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon are now relentlessly claiming hundreds of civilian lives. And I am very saddened to confirm that two UNHCR colleagues were also killed yesterday. On behalf of all us at UNHCR, heartfelt condolences to their families, friends and colleagues.

The escalating crisis in Lebanon is frightening. Thousands of people were forced from their homes today, in a region already devastated by war. The toll on civilians is unacceptable. Political leaders must bring solutions. An end to the hostilities is urgently needed. #UNGA

Terrible news of six @unrwa staff killed in Gaza and three @ICRC workers in Ukraine. We at UNHCR stand in total solidarity with their loved ones. These are not “accidents” but proof of deliberate disregard for the lives of civilians and aid workers by parties to these conflicts.

8 more deaths in the Channel - again! Cracking down on traffickers is important but dangerous journeys will be reduced by tackling root causes and creating opportunities and safe pathways on routes. It requires states working together as recently discussed in London and Paris.

What a pleasure to be in London and meet @YvetteCooperMP! Encouraging to hear the government's plans to tackle complex population flows in cooperation with European and international partners. Recent tragedies show why solutions are so important. UNHCR stands ready to help.

My thoughts are with the loved ones of those who died and were injured in yesterday's tragedy in the Channel. More safe and legal routes for asylum seekers are needed, along with support for host countries and ending devastating wars that drive displacement.
Filippo Grandi@FilippoGrandi

12 people have died in the Channel; 6 were children. As we mourn them, we hope that yet another tragedy, in addition to anti-trafficking measures, accelerates long term responses: safe pathways, cooperation among states, more aid upstream to stabilize flows, conflict resolution.

Today, UNHCR managed to reach and deliver critical aid for families in areas of Darfur that are very difficult to reach. Thank you to all those who have supported our #Sudan appeal. More help is urgently needed 🙏unrefugees.org.uk/where-help-is-…
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency@Refugees

NEWS from Sudan: Today we brought life-saving aid from Chad to Darfur. Extremely vulnerable people - some displaced over and over due to war and recent floods - will access kitchen sets, blankets, sleeping mats, solar lamps and more. Additional funding is urgently needed.
