A large study conducted over 19 years showed individuals in the highest quartile of frequency of ultra-processed food 🍩intake (e.g. sugar-sweetened beverages, 🧋sweetened milk, sausage or other reconstructed meats, sweetened cereals, 🧁 confectionery, desserts) had a 31% higher risk of all-cause mortality, plus an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and dementia. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30789115/

My latest on @Medscape makes the case that no, diet and and exercise are not better than medications for obesity. As in literally not better. Idealistically maybe there's room for argument (though I don't think so tbh), but the data on drugs' superiority is unequivocal 🧵

👩‍🏫🎓 We're working with @EllieColes_RD to find out whether practice-based learning (placements) in a university setting would be of interest to dietetic students. Share your views on what this type of placement might look like & if you'd be interested ⬇ surveymonkey.com/r/PBLinaUniver…

These stats, just released, are a national scandal. Over 15,000 doctors applied to GP training this year. Yet @NHSEngland is letting only 4000 of them do so. Yes. That’s 11k potential new GPs lost to the NHS - when we’re crying out for GPs. Many replaced with PAs - madness.

In the autumn and winter months, the sun is not strong enough for us to make vitamin D in our skin. Government advice is that everyone should consider taking a daily vitamin D supplement from October to March. Vitamin D is also found in some foods - see nutrition.org.uk/media/gyceqobk…

Actually, thinking about it, the entire nation should be ashamed for making the very same doctors and nurses who risked their lives to try and save their fellow citizens’ from Covid beg and strike without pay just to get their pay in line with inflation! It’s a f’ing joke!
