@_Brendandroid_ I mentioned it on linkedin, but i will here too. REST. Let time to process. If you can afford it, take a week doing nothing. Our brains were used to 24/7 work for so long they don't know how to function anymore.

A native tweet? Okay I guess. Waking up the next morning after 8 years of building things at the same place M-F (and often weekends heh) feels…weird bro. Do I shower? What am I doing today? Should I go for a walk or apply for jobs?

You know what's really awesome about getting laid off? I can't change the email to my epic games store account since I can't access it anymore. Kinda an ironic problem to have, huh? Hopefully account recovery process is smooth.

@BarrettJ I wish the same! I actually never did sport in probably 20 years or more. I bought a Tonal while at Epic, and i think i used it twice. What a waste.

@epic_simone Thanks! And it's definitely one of those things I'm kicking myself on. For years, I defined myself as a runner and never cared about weight training. And now I wish I'd started in my twenties. It just makes so much easier, having the extra strength.

Is it a lot of weight? No, not really. But as the skinny computer nerd who waited until age 40 to see the advantage of weight-lifting, 3 sets of 3 reps at 200lb is pretty damn cool. Onwards and upwards!

Same here went from about 2-4 bad hours sleep to a good 9h, not only that but I had cortisol/TSH issues for 5 years (giving me anxiety and panic attacks) and they are all but gone. Working out + better diet + better sleep == no more GAD/numbers in normal range. I did also cut most processed sugar, which probably helped. I wish I would have started much younger.

I got a special behind the scenes look on how this 2.5D Anime Game was created with Paper 2D and PaperZD! They developed many new techniques here which are pretty groundbreaking and might help you in your own projects! Full Video: youtu.be/wet2X6FLMf0

@TheWintersFox And I will make enemies, but the WFH made those people barely outputting even more difficult to unmasked.

Agree on the 80% output, i would go even more far, by the end I was there. About 10% of the people in the project I was on were actually outputting. The others were playing or barely working, dragging along. This is not just Epic tho, the bigger a company is the more the output is centralized around key people - often invisible to the majority, who actually do most of the important work, and less and less of the company is actually outputting anything of real value. It is a well studied issue called the Pareto Principle. Some simple tasks would take bigger team ages to implement, but then one dev would just get tired of it and do it themselves, and it would take 2h. In that last layoff, I know of many people who were those "doer" and I am not sure how they were chosen, but i can foresee many mistakes. Some of the people let go have been literally feature owner and the tribal knowledge is gone with them. This ain't good.

Unfortunately one thing I observed while working on Fortnite with Epic Games was the paredo principle in action. 80% of the outcomes come from 20% of the inputs. Meaning there are a small portion of people that actually make 80% of the results happen in companies. Not referencing any specific people from this cull that just happened at EPIC but there are people who are “blackboxes” in a workplace. A blackbox is someone who can do a job that no one else can do because they know the system so well, that when they leave it’s like the system they run is held together by chewing gum and duct tape running a quantum computer and only they and a few others know how to use it. (Meaning if someone else was hired to do their job it’d be nearly impossible to do it the same) When you get rid of those people, their inputs are now gone. Meaning all the information they know, the processes/efficency that only they can do, their expertise is gone. Even if they document what they know there’s still a ramp up time to train new people, and some cannot be replaced. The only explanation to get rid of a blackbox in a workplace is they are not a culture fit anymore/ they don’t play nice with others/ or they use their status and knowledge as leverage against the company to do whatever they want “I can post whatever I want on social media because I’m indespinsible”. The only other reason to get rid of a blackbox is that the owner or their management got to know them so well that professionally they think it’d be better for their growth to go elsewhere. Thus changing how their business runs so other non top 20% performers will then step up, to fill in the gaps.

@giovauefn Thank you. I used ray reconstruction, it does help a lot for all those messy interior, but it is still noisy AF. I ll play with your settings! thanks!

@epic_simone For me the best settings are DLSS 4.0 with quality mode, no frame generator and no ray reconstruction. You might enable it with a 5090 though. I get around 90 fps like that and the noise isn't the worst (but still there)

Anyone has any setting to run Crimson Forest without any ghosting/temporal noise? Every videos I see has noise and ghosting. Even reviews/tech review. Running AMD9800X3D/RTX5090/32GB RAM. Native barely hit 40fps, DLSS is noisy like crazy.

This was the most profound experience of my life. I am stunned beyond comprehension. This molecule is without peer. The 27mg dose opened up what felt like pure consciousness and intelligence. A majestic reveal of existence itself. In all its incomprehensible glory and majesty. It is impossible to explain with words. Whatever you imagine, multiply it by 1,000 and then add infinite width and depth and dimensions. But entrance was not granted without prerequisite. Existence demanded that I submit. That I say yes; without attachment and without condition. Yes to existence; yes to the dissolution of self; yes to release control; yes, to all. My ego registered the ask and panicked. It wanted control. It was desperate for control. It pleaded to escape from the torrent of light and essence that threatened to rip my sanity into chards. The urge to eject was overwhelming. Terror thundered throughout my mind and body. It took everything within me to release. I overcame and was treated with bliss that defies imagination. A euphoria colored with perfect harmony of all things. An orchestra of essence washed over me and swept me up in dance. It was home. The highest aspiration of intelligent life. For some reason, stored and tucked away as the ultimate prize. A single concept emerged in omnipresence: we cannot grok the preciousness of our existence. Yet it is everything we’ve ever wanted and more. The state we long for without knowing it exists. This caused me great pain and heartache. A swell of loyalty and devotion emerged inside me, pledging allegiance to existence. To become a warrior and caretaker of life on earth. To protect at any cost the candle of consciousness that has miraculously emerged in this part of the galaxy. What awaits will wipe all your tears, soothe all your sorrows, and infinitely exceed your wants.
