Excited to share my postdoc work, out on bioRxiv today! Histones package DNA into nucleosomes to form the building blocks of chromatin, but how modular and programmable is this system? 1/9

🚨New paper alert!🚨 Cells integrate signals into decision-making. But how do levels of signaling influence cell-fate transitions? Is more always better? Or is there an “optimal” level for cell-fate programming? If we could tune signaling, could optimize production of neurons? Read on! (1/n)🧵

@JD_Buenrostro One last thing - I am on the job market! My lab will extend this work to decode resilient chromatin: adaptations that allow for survival in harsh environments. These hold the 🔑 to designing cells that thrive under stress, esp. as we push the limits of where we go ❄️🚀🪐🌱9/9

Huge thanks to all co-authors and the inimitable @JD_Buenrostro for supporting this new direction - I got to think about evolution, engineering, chromatin biophysics, and modeling during the course of this project. For more, check out the preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

My NIH Study Section (MABS) was cancelled a little more than 24 hours before the start. With 35 members, & 45 h of reviews/member, that wasted 1575 hours of scientists' unpaid time. @NIH, protect scientists right now & cancel all study sections until you get clarity. @NIHDirector

Levels of gene expression matter! So how can you control a transgene precisely? Is there a tool that can ensure uniform control & the ability to adjust the setpoint of expression from a single promoter? Introducing DIAL! 🧵 (1/n) Link: doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

T cells become exhausted and fail to control tumors in cancer patients. What if we could replicate T cell exhaustion in vitro and uncover the gene regulatory network driving exhaustion, enabling immuno-oncology drug discovery? With AstraZeneca, the Buenrostro lab addresses this gap (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…):
