So, he’s in-bound to Blighty, so it’s our last chance to share this festive little ditty, complete with a little festive mashup at the end inspired by @BBCSteveR’s recent efforts. Merry Christmas all 🎅🏻

@jessicaelgot Count Binface is not an MP. If he gets elected then we have every right to know who funds him and who has funded him in the year running up the by election. This point seems to have escaped the Reform stans

It was noticeable that there was practically no enforced fan segregation in the stands at the Aztecca. This is the reason, it’s simply not needed. The Mexican fan guard of honour for the England fans shows everyone else how watching football can be. Elite fans the Mexicans 👏👏👏

Una linda imagen que nos dejó el partido México vs Inglaterra. Mexicanos felicitando a los ingleses por el triunfo. Saber ganar y saber perder, siempre.❤️

The sad thing for @USMNT is that during the World Cup, they’d actually won over lots of fans with the way they played and the exciting group of players they’d assembled. Trump’s intervention meant the whole footballing world were rooting against them and celebrating their exit.

@DPJHodges @PaulJen16915538 This is the key question. Like his records being hacked, or the Russians being behind release of his information. These accusations are designed to deflect. There’s no follow up and there defo won’t be legal action against the newspaper. Caught with his pants down and flailing

Reform can scream about an establishment stitch up all they like. Nigel Farage's political trajectory is now set. Posh George is as bent as a nine bob note. And Farage knows too many Posh Georges > Daily Mail > dailymail.com/debate/article…

The whole Balogun business is the perfect metaphor for Trump. Uses his unprecedented power to wade in on something he can’t even begin to understand, sullies, corrupts and strips it of all integrity and ultimately achieves absolutely nothing. Everything he touches turns to shit.

@Kevin_Kinkead @IronBornWHUFC They’re identical as all three were given as reds. It doesn’t matter about the nature of the foul or whether you believe the correct call was made, a ban follows. They are identical once the card has been issued. The rules are the same for everyone, except when they’re not

the annoying thing about Balogun situation is that every single complainer on here (99% Europeans) would change their tune if it happened to their guy. imagine that was Harry Kane getting sent off. do you think the insufferable British media would have simply accepted the red?

It is going to be absolutely hilarious if Belgium beat the United States. Trump complains and Infantino reinstates the US. Then Spain beat the United States. Trump complains and Infantino reinstates the US. Then France beat the United States. Trump complains and Infantino reinstates the US. Then England beat the United States. Trump complains and Infantino gives the US the World Cup We're going to end 60 years of hurt only for the trophy to be awarded to the US

Nottingham Forest@NFFC

Nottingham Forest is delighted to announce the appointment of Oliver Glasner as the Club’s new Head Coach. One of Europe's most respected and progressive coaches, Glasner joins Forest with an outstanding reputation for developing players, building ambitious attacking teams and delivering success at the highest level of the game. His leadership, tactical expertise and winning mentality make him the ideal person to lead the Club into its next chapter. Glasner arrives at Forest having become only the third head coach to win both the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League. His European success, together with domestic silverware in England, underlines his track record of building winning teams. He guided VfL Wolfsburg to UEFA Champions League qualification before leading Eintracht Frankfurt to victory in the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League, securing the club's first major European trophy in more than four decades. During his time in Germany, his teams earned widespread admiration for their intensity, tactical organisation and attacking style of play. Most recently, Glasner made an immediate impact in English football, winning the 2024/25 FA Cup in his first full season in the Premier League, followed by the FA Community Shield, before going on to win the UEFA Conference League the following season. Speaking of his appointment, Oliver Glasner said: “I’m delighted to join Nottingham Forest as head coach. From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term. That trust and shared commitment, together with the potential that I see within the squad, were key factors for me and I am excited about what we can achieve together. “Nottingham Forest is a club with incredible prestige and history, a two-time European Champion with one of the most passionate fan bases in football. Our aim is to build a team that can help take the club to the next level in the years ahead and that our supporters can be proud of. “My immediate focus is on meeting the players and staff and getting to work as we begin pre-season. I’m excited for the future and will work tirelessly to represent this great club with pride and to bring success on the pitch. I can’t wait to get started.” Owner Evangelos Marinakis said: "In our discussions with Oliver, it was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed. He has consistently demonstrated throughout his career that he can build outstanding teams and deliver success against the strongest competition. "It has always been our goal to establish Nottingham Forest once again among the leading clubs in England and Europe. Our ambition is not simply to compete – our ambition is to win, to challenge for major honours and to create a football club that our supporters can be proud of for many years to come. "Oliver is a winner. He has earned success through his leadership, his personality and the style of football his teams play. We believe he is the right person to lead us into this next chapter, and I am delighted to welcome Oliver to the Club.”

Credit where credit is due, I was quick to criticise the squad that Tuchel selected but across the five games, every substitution he's made has improved the team in that moment, and every squad player who's come on has made a contribution. Almost like Tuchel knows better than us

The Reform responses to this are hilarious. Claiming polls mean nothing, Reform are 10+ points ahead, they’ll storm actually elections. Lads, you’ve just got trounced in 6 by elections in a row against a historically unpopular PM and government.

@DPJHodges Man with zero mandate because he was elected not just under a different manifesto but for a totally different party, demands election because man elected for the party in government under pledge to honour manifesto, apparently has no mandate. Did the people of Newark vote Reform?

Constantly demanding the Government should call an election when you know they won't is silly politics. Constantly demanding the Official Opposition should call for an election is just plain weird...
Robert Jenrick@RobertJenrick

Kemi Badenoch said there should be an election if Andy Burnham doesn’t fund defence properly. Yesterday Burnham’s spokesperson said the matter is now ‘settled’. It clearly isn’t - there’s still a massive hole in the Defence budget. Will the Tories call for an election today?

@DPJHodges It does rather reinforce the idea that as a nation we are no completely ungovernable and politically feral. “We hate Starmer, he’s a liberal, London-centric technocrat who believes in nothing.” “Okay, here’s a northern mayor with a coherent vision for change. “No!! Not him!”

As I said, there are significant political challenges for Andy Burnham's regional devolution strategy. But the hysterical reaction by some to the idea the British Prime Minister might spend a day or two out of London shows just how hard even incremental change actually is.
