UPDATE A fast-moving wildfire burning near Ouray has prompted mandatory evacuations, forced the closure of a portion of US 550, and triggered a large multi-agency response as firefighters battle difficult terrain and dangerous fire weather. According to the Ouray County Sheriff's Office, mandatory evacuations are in effect for Lake Lenore, Panoramic Heights, Redstone Road, Peck's Trailer Park, and nearby areas. A pre-evacuation zone extends from Whispering Pines to Black Lake. An evacuation center has been established at Ridgway Secondary School, 1200 Green Street, for residents who need shelter. The fire, now identified as the Gold Mountain Fire, has forced the Colorado Department of Transportation to close a roughly two-mile section of US 550 just north of Ouray. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. State and federal firefighting resources have been ordered to the scene, including Type 1 Hotshot crews, multiple engines, air tankers, and helicopters as crews work to slow the fire's spread. Fire officials say steep terrain and shifting winds are making suppression efforts difficult, with increased fire activity expected Monday. The fire's size and cause have not yet been released, and officials have not said how many homes are currently threatened. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for several Western Slope counties, citing critical wildfire conditions. Officials warn that rapid fire growth remains likely as Colorado continues to experience unusually dry conditions following the state's record-low snowpack and warmest winter on record. Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates from the Ouray County Sheriff's Office and Colorado Department of Transportation as evacuation zones and road closures may change.

This is our iconic Alaska spring festival the one that signals winter is finally done and we can all cut loose. Instead, it got interrupted by a life-changing event that no one wants to see. A young guy went big, hit the jump, and everything changed in a second. Looks like he’s paralyzed 💯That’s brutal could not imagine. We can’t pretend this stuff doesn’t happen when you mix big mountain energy, fast speeds, and slush pools. But we also can’t just shrug and say “Alaska things.” Not when the consequences are this serious. Praying hard for Will’s recovery. Hoping like hell this doesn’t kill the event for good. The Slush Cup is too special to lose. But if we want to keep it alive, we need real changes better course layout, longer pools, smarter safety precautions, and actual barriers that protect people when things go wrong. We owe it to every racer, volunteer, and spectator who shows up year after year. Learn from this, fix what needs fixing, and protect the tradition instead of risking it. Get well, Will. We tried doing it with our toddler, realized sitting in I70 every weekend for hours on end to go ski with a million other people was no way to go through life.

Hey man maybe lay off the politics and denigration for at least a few hours? These men just paid the ultimate sacrifice and guard duty isn't just well-known by Americans, it's the foundation of our military. Go back to 1776 and try to figure out how many people would consider themselves full-time soldiers vs guardsmen and you'll find out that most Americans outside of your bubble know reservists who are serving honorably and deploying regularly.

Looks like the soldiers killed in Kuwait were reservists. Most Americans don’t know that reservists and Guardsmen make up large elements of US forces overseas. Reservists and Guardsmen made up 40% of the US forces in the Afghan and Iraq wars. Remember that the 3 US soldiers killed in Jordan in 2024 were reservists as well. The US cannot field enough active duty forces to support its commitments overseas PRIOR to war. Sustaining a war with Iran will require a substantial call up of reservists and National Guard. These four people should have had long lives with their families and been contributors to their communities. They should not have died in Kuwait.

@Demarcusfitz @s2010d @verge It isn’t selling because Tesla hasn’t meaningfully updated it since its release. Mechanically it has all the same problems as a 2016 model. Despite that, they have raised the entry price to $100k. When they lowered the entry price to $65k, they sold a lot more. Weird.
