@EmJayTrey Because then it would miss balls that were strikes later over the plate. Ideally it should be a 3 dimensional zone over the entire plate, but they chose against that because it created odd looking calls.

This pitch may have been both:
-a Strike according the rulebook strike zone (3 dimensional/starting at the front of the plate), and
-a Ball, according to ABS (2 dimensional/measured at the middle of the plate).

Still genuinely torn on these challenges. Pitch framing is a real skill and there's something I like about the chaos that comes with a human element behind the plate. But I'd be lying if I said this past weekend wasn't great. Fans going nuts, umps getting shown up, players getting exposed. Hard to hate it. I think I've fully come around.
