people driven by shame always think they've intuited some genius level discernment by systemizing their embarrassment into a way of navigating reality that avoids ever encountering that shame and embarrassment but they're actually stupid and made stupider mechanically by doing so

@9mmsmg Every few months we do a zogslop check and order all the new Taco Bell items. As fake-Americanized Mexican its 2 levels abstracted from real food

Drove by a Taco Bell, and there was actually a line at the drive-through. How are people eating this stuff? Fast food is trash in general, but Taco Bell is bottom rung for me. Wouldn't eat it if it were free. What's wrong with you people?

@_chase_____ The government doesn't want you to know this, but you can actually just buy flour and not do anything with it. I have 128 lbs of flour at home

@PeteJawny @BigDickBarclay @MustardFren That’s how it worked when I did my ductless unit. But with a big split system there’s no telling how far the lineset has to go so don’t think you can rely on that.

@BigDickBarclay @MustardFren @ethinva Don't most condensers come precharged with enough refrigerant for a typical lineset anyway? Such that only if it's extra long (far away) would you need to top it off to sufficient levels?

@BigDickBarclay I have yet to see an installer remove the unused condensate plug, put Teflon on it and put it back in. 99% of Lennox furnaces are completely rusted out within 5 years because of this and the leaking inducer housing.

@roryisconfused Curse words are softened by a strong accent. An Alabama redneck saying “slide at over a cunthair for me would ya” doesn’t sound bad.

A guy in The Wire just said cunt and it really struck me that it sounds like a much, much more violent word in an American accent somehow

@itsqail 100% correct, this would be my exact list as a long time road bike rider, only I have’t seen enough Teslas and other pickups are bad not just F-150s.

Worst drivers u can encounter on the road: 1. Teslas (all clueless) 2. Beat up Honda Civic/accord (suicidal drivers) 3. Any BMW (a different kind of douchebag/entitled) 4. Angry F-150 guys (no explanation necessary/they need therapy)

@Sparkpoodle1 It destroys a lot of proteins. This is obvious if you ever try to make cheese with pasteurized milk. You barely get any curd and it doesn’t hold together.

people misunderstand the icarus story. the problem was not that he flew too high. it's that the wings were made of beeswax, which offered very little resistance to heating. with modern materials he would have had no problems. we can fly as close to the sun as we want now

you ever wonder why we dont build with big stones like in the olden days, and only in small stones like the modern days? its because we broke up all the big stones (boulders) and now we only have little ones (bricks) to work with. makes you think.

@avidseries You can tell a podcast has jumped the shark when they spend the first 10-15 min talking about the podcast and NOT the topic of the podcast, ie events, giveaways, previous guests

I've never listened to a podcast for more than 3 or 4 minutes. I don't have the patience to listen to people ramble on while I wait for them to talk about something I might be interested in. I'm not sure there's ever been a less efficient way to transmit information.

@SynBio1 Because an environment of all scientists is a social monoculture. Undergrad or grade school is more of a healthy ecosystem with a range of personalities where you can have robust networks of similar enough people.

Don't forget to teach them tourqe settings and importance of it, also different types of screws, self tapping sheet metal vs machine vs wood vs drywall, metric threads vs same. When to use an impact driver vs drill. Oh and don't skip the variances you will get as your battery begins to drain.

First thing we skills test for is "can you run a cordless drill". 98% of guys under 35 in fact cannot. They can't run a cordless drill properly, safely. You aren't going to learn to be a plumber or electrician in 2 years because you don't even know enough to change a tire.
