The problem with characterizing black-hole VCs as PE firms is that they look for power-law returns, which are unprecedented at that fund size. PE looks for consistency through activism. Black-hole VC is PE-size funds without PE-style discipline.

2024 was a record year for LP concentration into megafunds. Half of all commitments went to just 8 firms vs. 25 in 2021 when emerging managers raised their funds. We presented this at our AGM.

@healthapiguy The framing is usually that Epic "sucks the least." Epic leans into that by touting they have the "lowest dissatisfaction rating." There's no incentive to create a product doctors love, just one marginally better than the next worst option.

Reddit remains such a good place to break out of an echo chamber and hear different perspectives. This "We always talk about how some EHRs suck, but which ones are actually good?" is worth a read. The sentiment (which doesn't pattern match the conventional wisdom in digital health communities) is that Epic is best of available options (although still not ideal). reddit.com/r/healthIT/com…
