Ireland & USA *Ireland is one of the top 10 foreign investors in the U.S. — well over $300 billion — far exceeding Israel’s. *Irish companies directly support over 100,000 U.S. jobs — especially in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, tech, and construction. *Ireland is the strongest pro-American voice inside the EU and aligns with U.S. positions on transatlantic security, NATO cooperation, tech regulation, and trade. *The U.S. runs a trade surplus with Ireland — worth about $20 billion — mainly in aircraft, pharmaceuticals, software, and agricultural products. *Ireland provides America, EU access (to +450 million ppl) worth hundreds of billions per year to the USA. Post-Brexit, Ireland has become Washington’s bridge into the EU single market. Israel & USA *Israel is a strategic and defense partner — but economically much smaller. *U.S.–Israel trade is worth around $50 billion annually, with Israel receiving $3.8 billion in U.S. aid each year under the MOU. *Israel acts as a key regional power and a stabilizing force for U.S. influence in the Middle East. Given ongoing conflicts, terrorism threats, and Iranian regional ambitions, maintaining a close alliance with Israel is seen as essential to safeguarding U.S. interests. This is also something that NATO, in theory, should support. Why Ireland Has More Leverage Than Washington Hawks Admit *Around 10% of Americans claim Irish ancestry — over 30 million people. Jewish Americans make up just over 2% of the U.S population. *Trump won the majority of Irish-American votes. *That Irish-American identity isn’t just symbolic — it’s politically active, with strong influence in Congress, state legislatures, and local governments. Backed by Wall St., Switzerland, the Middle East & the EU — with virtually unlimited capital from ROI, productivity, pro-business laws, economic strength, sovereign guarantee strength & an AA credit rating. *Many Irish-American lawmakers and donors won’t back punitive measures against Ireland, especially over an issue framed as international law and human rights. Why the Neocon Wing Is Nervous *The “neocon” faction in Washington relies on political loyalty rather than economic logic in its Israel policy. *Ireland’s move exposes a crack in that consensus — showing that even a pro-American, Western ally inside the EU can oppose settlement activity without “leaving the West.” *That precedent scares them: if Ireland holds firm without major U.S. retaliation, others in Europe will follow..... and have already started... such as Germany —one of the biggest traders with the USA. *Ireland and Germany, both members of the EU, have recently finalized a trade deal worth $1.3 trillion with their U.S. partner—an agreement on a scale that Israel cannot match in its lifetime. Put bluntly: Ireland has both hard and soft power leverage — jobs, trade, investment, political capital, and diaspora influence. Behind the outrage, the hawks know this isn’t a small country they can punish without cost. My prediction: While Ireland’s economic weight and diaspora influence grant it substantial soft power, Israel’s value as a strategic defense partner in a critical region ensures it remains a top priority for U.S. policymakers. The U.S. will balance these relationships carefully but is unlikely to risk its core strategic interests with Israel for economic considerations with the EU, or Ireland alone.
