@NaithanJones Disdain can lead to immediate and severe consequences, especially for those with less power. It dehumanizes individuals, justifying exclusion, mistreatment, and even violence, thus reinforcing systemic oppression.

@NaithanJones Pity, while still harmful and patronizing, reinforces power imbalances by positioning the giver as superior and the recipient as dependent. It undermines self-esteem and agency but may not result in the same level of direct harm as disdain. I appreciate the question. Talk soon.

@NaithanJones @NaithanJones both stem from racist beliefs re inferiority. Preferences may vary based on social status/power. Those w less power may find disdain more dangerous due to its potential for immediate harm. Those w more power might perceive pity as undermining their achievements.
