@NYMag What’s with our ever increasing desire for social isolation? Maybe it’s good if the babies and the families are around each other?

I am at a hotel gym (I usually work out at home), and it seems like all the men in this gym are on work calls while working out. There is a cross section finance, law, PE, and even a doctor. I do not remember it being this way. Have people gotten busier or has “always on” taken over. I am also on a work call, of course.

Young people worldwide increasingly do not believe they have a social safety net; instead of blaming external circumstances, it's driving ultra-individualism and "high agency" behavior that could be seen as either entrepreneurial or delusional (@sophiehaigney in the NYT, my 2018 @verge article on why young Koreans were driving the country’s outsized crypto market)

Really cool to see this style of advertising come back. Shocking to see such slovenly copywriting coming from one of the largest athletic brands in the world.

@beckyvonnahme @drantbradley I think his argument is more so that sports is serving more and more as an aggravating factor to those suffering from mental illness. Not that it is causal.

@drantbradley Sorry, sir, but that “data” clearly does not support your conclusion that youth sports is responsible for suicide later in life. Depression is complex, multi-layered and shaped by many influences. Again correlation is not causation.

I’m starting to track these stories. We’re seeing a swell in male college athletes taking their lives either during or right after college. There’s a direct correlation between these suicides and an early life of youth/travel sports. 20s is when the damage shows.

The conflict will disrupt oil supply, so gas and everyday prices here will rise. It will also disrupt the Suez Canal, delaying goods like food, auto parts, and other materials, which will lead to shortages and raise prices for U.S. consumers even more and that's just the economic aspect.

I think that's a gross misframing of the issue. I think there's a far larger set of Democrats who watch Ben-Gvir pop champagne with a noose adorned on his lapel and wonder what in the hell the United States is doing aiding and abetting it.
DS@LakeDaniel11

There seems to be an assumption that letting the kids who took over Columbias campus chanting “glory to the martyrs” after Oct 7 take over the Dem. party is a wise move. I assure you politics of a hedge fund managers daughter talking about “killing Zionists” aren’t that popular.

@Lwm_625 @lyndonbajohnson They should pay for it themselves, I agree. However, their neighbors attack them and will continue attacking them forever. Every single conflict starts the exact same way.

This is so true. Young men are more and more delayed in assuming positions of actual responsibility. And it creates a feedback loop where they get used to it and can't imagine being in command of something. The youth may not have experience but they have energy. Which our sclerotic societies surely need.
ThinkingWest@thinkingwest

It’s incredible to me how past societies placed a lot of trust in young men. Nowadays power is jealously guarded by the old because money is a prerequisite for power. Young people being world leaders or generals is completely inconceivable today.

@MufasaJr263 Socks and a Garmin watch matter too. If you don’t have proper socks, you’ll get blisters. A Garmin gives you the most accurate distances, and you can use it in any weather without worrying about the battery draining like a phone would.
