Really chuffed to have been shortlisted for Regional Journalist of the Year at the @SportSJA awards for 2025.
Local / regional journalism is really important. Covering the last 18 months at Sheffield Wednesday has been a responsibility I and others have taken very seriously.
Beats working for a living. UTO.

Absolutely delighted for @AlexJPMiller and his @SportSJA award nomination…
Completely and utterly deserved. I’m sure everyone else has been great, but Miller has done unbelievable work on #SWFC. This should be in the bag.

Born #OnThisDay in 1880, Captain Lawrence Oates made the ultimate sacrifice on the day of his birth in 1912, by stepping out of his tent into a blizzard never to be seen again. Oates was an integral part of Scott's Polar Party, during the British Antarctic 'Terra Nova' Expedition 1910-1913, and made a brave attempt to preserve enough supplies for Scott, Wilson and Bowers during their return from the South Pole.
Oates was severely frostbitten, weakened and suffering from scurvy. Believing he was slowing the other men down, Oates died so they could have a chance at living. As he left the tent, Oates's famous last words are recorded as "I'm just going outside and may be some time..."
Captain Scott recorded these words in his diary, and some uncertainty lies over whether it was on the 16th or 17th March, the day Oates was born 32 years earlier. Scott also wrote of Oates in his diary, "...it was the act of a brave man and an English gentleman."
Lawrence Oates was born in Putney, Surrey and in 1898, joined a militia regiment, the 3rd Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment. In 1900, he was given an attachment to the British Army's 6th Inniskilling Dragoons and fought during the Second Boer War in South Africa. During the war Oates suffered a bullet injury to his thigh, leaving him with a limp and one leg shorter than the other. This injury caused him further pain, when the chill of the Antarctic intensified the effect of his injuries.
Oates' body was never found, however near where it is presumed that he died the search party erected a cairn and cross with the inscription;
'Hereabouts died a very gallant gentleman, Captain L. E. G. Oates, of the Inniskilling Dragoons. In March 1912, returning from the Pole, he walked willingly to his death in a blizzard, to try and save his comrades, beset by hardships.'

Back in the States now, reflecting on an unbelievable week in Sheffield…. on behalf of Michael, Tom and myself, I want to thank the wonderful city of Sheffield, the local members of the community we met, the Supporters’ Trust and the Sheffield Wednesday fans for making us feel so incredibly welcome.
We are listening to and collaborating with talented Wednesdayites across the city to ensure we deliver a best in class fan experience. Whilst we continue to work diligently to become stewards of this unique and historic club, please know that we will be doing everything we can in the interest of a “Better Wednesday” and a brighter future for everyone associated with Sheffield Wednesday.

One of the things that strikes me and has come out of the whole #swfc debacle is the commitment and quality of local journalists. The work that @AlexJPMiller @YesWeCrann @robstaton @adam3oxley have put in has to be highlighted. We sometimes might not agree but they have strived to get the true story and position out, not the made up bullshit that ITK accounts claim. On top of that also reporting on games that frankly is loss after loss as well. Yes it’s their job but it’s been a hell of a ride this season. They’ve had to put up with some crap and it’s important to recognise how good they have been. Great job by everyone. #wawaw

To be honest this is not really any update. We know there have been no bids high enough to pay 25p in the pound. We don't know what negotiations or discussions going on in the background. Sky Sports just rehashing old news, lazy journalism!! #swfc

Sheffield Wednesday look set to start life in League One next season with a 15-point deduction, because none of the bidders currently trying to buy the club are prepared to pay £15m to the outgoing owner, Dejphon Chansiri.
