i think it should be a bit harder to get crazy knife damage in marathon but absolutely possible. as someone who regularly wipes trios in hunt with just the standard knife i love the stabby stabby but it shouldn’t just be totally viable against good kits as a free kit

There will be people upset that most of the game is still locked away from them, and that's just too bad! But it may create a layer of lowered friction that will lead people to -try- to actually play, and there's already a sunk cost so it might help people into the actual loop

A baby map that only gives greens! They could make it a variation of perimeter. There's no priority contracts on it, and only certain regular contracts can be fulfilled. You or your squad load in solo instance. When youre ready to play for blues, queue for regular perimeter

@Hollowtide A pve only training ground that only gave you up to green rarity items wouldn't be a problem I don't think. Then people can take their greened up kits into perimeter if they think they are ready to try and get some blues

I love what marathon is. I know this is what the devs vision for the game was and I haven’t been so addicted to a game like this in forever. And I would love for it to just add on to that experience.
That being said, I am all for them adding a pve mode or something that would get more ppl into the game. I don’t know if Sony is gonna allow them to retain employees or give them the bankroll to allow them to add to their original vision for the game with a lower than expected player count and revenue.
If the pve mode is a way to get people through the door and get them hooked on the game and the universe, and then that funnels into the main mode and ends up helping the studio and the game, why wouldn’t I support that.
I’ve seen tweets about how people want the game to stay niche and all that, and I understand but ultimately I want the game to get more than six months of love before Sony decides to pull the plug and we get a skeleton crew or worse. I experienced that with Halo infinite and it’s very depressing.
I think outright dismissing both sides of the convo is silly and shortsighted and both sides have pros and cons.

Add a PvE mode with a limited loot pool to Marathon, as a way for players to complete contracts without PvP threats would increase retention and player count. Keep all the good loot locked in the current modes this allows new players to level up "safely" and get comfortable.

The average non terminally online user seeing all the OMG STUDIO SHUTDOWN takes will prevent people from playing, and it will harm long term success. Just play if you want, or don't. Hot take: I do think some type of limited PvE mode should be added. Make it solo only with higher restrictions on how you exfil.
This could be something for casual players to grind and enjoy the world of Tau Ceti IV. I like how the game is right now, but Paul is right.
