The two-state solution remains the most viable path to a Middle East without war. Europe is the biggest supporter of the Palestinian people. Our meeting today focused on the next steps to support Gaza and the West Bank. My press remarks with @PalestinePMO and @EspenBarthEide

I was speaking with a friend of mine last week who said to me, “Casey, I don’t think the average person understands how out of control antisemitism is.” I agree. So, to start, here’s some of what the Jewish community has been dealing with. Oh, and this is just from the last two weeks. 1. A Canadian realtor has been disciplined by his real estate regulator for sending violent and antisemitic messages to a Jewish-owned restaurant. 2. Tomorrow in Montreal, the Palestinian Youth Movement, which has ties to the PFLP, a listed terrorist organization, is holding an event in Montreal that will feature individuals who’ve been detained in connection with, and potentially convicted of, terrorist attacks in Israel. 3. A Canadian man has been sentenced to two years in prison for his antisemitic rhetoric, which included incitement to violence, as well as weapons charges. In one post, he wrote, “Zionists are like rats and ticks … that must be cleansed with fire.” 4. U.K. counter-terror officers are investigating an arson attack on a Jewish-owned business in Hendon. 5. This past Wednesday, police arrested two people over a separate arson attack on a synagogue in Finchley – another area of London. 6. Police in London have shut down a popular park after a terrorist group linked to Iran claimed to have launched drones carrying biological weapons at the Israeli embassy. CBRN teams have been seen in the area. 7. It’s been announced that the keynote speaker for a Seattle Palestinian cultural festival is set to be an al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades terrorist released as part of a ransom for hostages held in Gaza. 8. A terrorist involved in the murder of a bus driver and released in both the 2014 Gilad Schalit and February 2025 hostage deals is scheduled to lecture activists in Hungary and Spain next week. 9. It’s come to light that Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner praised Hamas tactics in 2014 Reddit posts, calling a graphic video of a raid that killed Israeli soldiers "damn fine looking and successful." 10. A woman in New York went viral after she recorded herself screaming at a group of Israeli men about them being “baby killers.” So yeah ... things are pretty bad.

@PattyMurray Shameful. Instead of expressing outrage that an Iranian proxy endangers Lebanese lives & has launched 6000 missiles on Israeli children, instead of siding with the Lebanese gov’t that sees Hezbollah & Iran as being responsible, you seek to demonize and cripple the Jewish state.

I dunno man. There's some small chance there are a few Arab-Islamic "ethnostates" out there in the Middle East. Iraqi constitution: ”Islam is the official religion of the State and it is a fundamental source of legislation: No law may be enacted that contradicts the established provisions of Islam.” "This Constitution guarantees the Islamic identity of the majority of the Iraqi people.” Egypt: "The Egyptian people are part of the Arab nation seeking to enhance its integration and unity” “Islam is the religion of the State and Arabic is its official language. The principles of Islamic Sharia are the main source of legislation.” Syria: "The Syrian Arab Republic … is part of the Arab homeland; The people of Syria are part of the Arab nation.” "The religion of the President of the Republic is Islam; Islamic jurisprudence shall be a major source of legislation.” Jordan: "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is an Arab State… Its people are part of the Arab Nation.” "Islam is the religion of the State and Arabic is its official language.” Kuwait: “The people of Kuwait is a part of the Arab Nation.” Algeria: "Islam shall be the religion of the State." “Algeria, land of Islam, an integral part of the Great Arab Maghreb and an Arab, Mediterranean and African country... the fundamental constituents of her identity, namely Islam, Arabism and Amazighism.” And whatever you do, do not, for the love of all things holy, look up the Palestinian constitution.

An ethnostate is not simply just “a state that happens to mostly contain one ethnicity”. Lebanon is not an ethnostate. Neither is Iraq, Jordan, or Egypt. An ethnostate, for Israel specifically a “herrenvolk democracy”, is a state that builds its politics on representing one group

@Bellorris @patstagepage Platitudes based on nothing but childish imagination. Iran massacred over 40,000 of their own citizens. They institute r4p3 as a tool of suppression. They hang teenagers. Palestinians in Gaza are fine with Hamas hiding rockets under schools and hospitals.

What is incredibly sad about all of this is how western free democratic countries fall for the oldest scam. I can understand those living under a totalitarian draconian state believing that a country the size of New Jersey has secret powers because whose who live in totalitarian systems develop a sense of mistrust, but what does it say about us, living in free democratic countries, believing in this absurd conspiracy? It says that we are broken because indulging in Jew-hatred is the knell that tolls for our civilization.
Casey Babb@DrCaseyBabb

The mainstreaming of antisemitism is reaching levels we haven't seen before – at least not in a generation – and not with such global reach. Suggesting that the U.S. is controlled by Israel is a classic antisemitic trope, and it's disgusting that @nbcsnl would air this.

This is, by now, a widespread belief, especially in the United States, where our historical consciousness is limited -- to the point that it doesn't really exist. The people who say things like this rarely seem to ask questions like: What could the Jewish state have done on October 8, 2023 that would *not* have led to the massive spike in antisemitism that has gripped the whole world? It responded the way any other serious country would have responded -- in fact, it was far more restrained than the U.S. was after 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. But, of course, it has been portrayed as doing the unthinkable -- committing "genocide," etc. One wonders if @Jason knows that the Israel haters had been accusing Israel of "genocide" for a long time *before* October 7. Ditto "apartheid," "settler-colonialism" and so forth. The antisemitism is not Netanyahu's fault, his many missteps and failures notwithstanding. The antisemitism is an outgrowth of the ancient double standard: The Jew is not allowed to do what the non-Jew is, and if the Jew falls out of line, the non-Jew has (historically) constructed all species of mythology to rationalize his Jew hatred. Note that the rationalization is always a cause, a righteousness, which makes it self-reinforcing. Hating Jews -- apologies, "Zionists" or "Israelis" -- is one's moral obligation. It is what good people do.

Why does every Jew in the world have the right to immigrate to Israel, but Palestinians whose families were ethnically cleansed from it in 1948 do not?
Daniel Rubenstein@paulrubens

@Olivia_Reingold Ask: Is it ok that Israel is the national home of the Jewish people, or do you accept what Palestinians call the “right of return”? This will get you away from the insufferable “right to exist” question and also the phrase “Jewish state” which is easily misunderstood.

@RepYassAnsari You don’t care for Lebanon if you don’t express individual condemnation of an Iranian imperial proxy militia that endangers Lebanon and has dragged it into a war by launching missiles on civilians across Israel at the behest of Iran.
