Read this carefully: Under UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, the closest provision is Article 3(f). It states that aggression includes: “the action of a State in allowing its territory, which it has placed at the disposal of another State, to be used by that other State for perpetrating an act of aggression against a third State.” In practical terms, this means that if a state knowingly allows its territory, bases, or infrastructure to be used by another state to carry out attacks, it can itself be considered as committing an act of aggression.

I have a genius idea: Dont bomb Iran. That will keep the straight of Hormuz open. It was open and no ships were attacked by Iran before that started.

Just mentioning for absolutely no reason whatsoever that after Iraq invaded Iran in 1980, Iran refused a ceasefire until 1988, even though Iran had regained its lost territory by 1982. Instead Iran invaded Iraq & continued to fight in the face of Iraqi chemical weapons attacks and missile hits on cities, suffering hundreds of thousands killed and wounded.

Bremmer's framing is common but wrong. Instead: 1. Iran was developing an ICBM when 2. Khamenei imposed a 2,000-km range limit. 3. The programs shifted to space launch. 4. Khamenei lifted the restriction in October 2025 after the June attacks. 5. Now he's dead, and here we are.
ian bremmer@ianbremmer

turned out the iranian government was lying about not developing any ballistic missiles with range beyond 2000km. hardly surprising, but justification for removing their ballistic missile capability militarily.

Iran has publicly admitted that. The Iranian strike on Dimona and the Haifa refinery following the Israeli attack on the South Pars gas field highlights a clear and consistent pattern: escalation managed through deliberate signaling. In both cases, we see effective command and control, with strategic guidance translating into precise operational execution at the tactical level. More importantly, Iran is working to preserve a response equation: whatever you do to us, we will do to you — and more. This is not random retaliation. It is structured deterrence, designed to shape behavior and impose costs. Any strategy that ignores this dynamic risks fundamentally misunderstanding how Iran calibrates escalation. #IranWar

@manniefabian is Iran targeting Dimona because US struck Natanz?

It's full winter here in Tel Aviv. It's full winter in Gaza, which Israel has been destroying, starving and isolating for nearly 30 months. This is about Gaza. It has always been about Gaza. Genocide with impunity shattered the world.

Either everyone lives in safety or everyone lives in darkness. For us Yemenis, we have been accustomed to darkness for 11 years. We are without electricity, without water projects, and without local oil because Saudi Arabia destroyed everything in Yemen under the pretext of fighting Iran in Yemen. As for Iran, if it bombs the region's energy, information technology, and desalination infrastructure, that is its right, because Gulf oil is the second lung through which the American and Zionist regimes breathe.

If you listen closely, you can almost hear the frantic clatter of keyboards as Western journalists in newsrooms rediscover the active voice and a passion for vivid detail, with Iran appearing to have struck Israel tonight.

I'm pretty sure they got the message after Trump murdered their entire leadership. The truth is that you actually want Trump to go full retard and send Iran back to the Stone Age, because although it would like result in a global economic meltdown as Iran retaliates by lashing out at energy infrastructure everywhere in the Gulf and immiserate hundreds of millions, you don't care about what happens to anyone in the rest of the world as long as Israel is safe and you can only imagine Israel being safe if every country around it has been turned either into a lackey or a wasteland.
Mark Dubowitz@mdubowitz

The regime still hasn’t internalized that President Trump will out-escalate them if he thinks escalation is required to force de-escalation. He is not a conventional Western politician, and Tehran repeatedly miscalculates because it keeps assuming he is.

Iran says it will target all energy infrastructure, information technology, and water desalination stations if Trump makes good on his "promise". Iran shouldn't wait, it should take the initiative rather than handing it to Trump and force him to stop before he starts. Iran must be careful, he might get Israel to attack before the time is out and then claim he'll stop. Doing this he can incrementally destroy Iran's infrastructure with these "stop and start" mistakes. This is equivalent to a ceasefire.
