we import 20k foreign doctors a year. Meanwhile, there was a record 28,000 applications to medical schools for just 8,000 places this year. Why are we depriving our own talented young people of opportunity, in order to bring in foreigners that we don’t need Brits first

@brierl29853 @sophielouisecc All doctors are paid the same according to thier place on a pay scale. Does not matter if you are uk trained or an international medical graduate. We are not hiring cheap doctors from overseas. They also have to meet strict Uk exam criteria to work. Same standards if not more!

So why isn’t food labelled ‘ Suitable for Sikhs, Hindus and non Muslims’ - rather than it only being about Muslims. Bonkers, resident Doctors need to keep fighting for increased training numbers and appropriate salaries for the work they do. It is madness. I remember when NTN numbers were cut. There will be no Doctors left in the uk at this rate.

I was a senior consultant in London and couldn’t afford a decent car purchased with cash ( I don’t do loans). Paid 1000s on pension fiasco. You should never disenfranchise your Drs.

We can’t get jobs and when we do we’re paid like shit, reasonable argument IMO from an optics perspective.

@Northernlurker1 @XelenX1 Context: Residence grade jobs esp national training numbers have reduced in amount over the years ( replaced with ACPs and PAs) med school numbers have slightly increased. Net: insufficient training posts to meet the needs of clinical services. Increase training posts = fix

@XelenX1 Striking for a higher wage whilst also striking because there are too many candidates for the posts available is quite an interesting position. Surely Wes doesn’t need to pay you more if there are 13 others waiting for your job.

We are literally striking because there AREN'T ENOUGH JOBS for drs. I'm an Emergency Medicine Trainee. Last year the competition ratio for my job was 14:1. If you are going to be derogatory, at least education yourself a tiny bit.

@DrTweXet These people need help , a 2 year course does not make you safe. Let’s get them to sit medical exams to assess their clinical safety. As a consultant for 20 years I still have to question my decisions .

@WilsonAndrewDr Question is, if you allow all the allied professionals to do the work that resident Drs do then how will you train the consultants of the future? There will be no one with the required skill sets/ expertise to make real high level decisions in 20 years time as Drs will be 0!

An educationally illiterate plan that ignores the central notion that expertise is achieved through the mastery of all the 'tasks' they intend to offload to others. Medicine is not a series of unrelated tasks!

@airlinevideos Israeli government has closed Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, due to military operations. All flights in and out of the airport have been grounded or rerouted. All in bound flights are being returned.

Happening now at LAX: El Al flight 6 to Tel Aviv has returned to Los Angeles after a total of 6.5 hours in the air. The Boeing 787 touched down moments ago on runway 25L.
