I was scrolling through the internets and came upon an article (linked below) about a KC-135 crew receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission they flew in the Middle East recently. What I found interesting in the article was this phrase, “They operated in an environment where the margin for error was razor thin. Where every decision carried weight and where failure was not an option." I don't doubt for a second that this is true, but it does bring to my mind many events that I am intimately familiar with that were carried out by airmen in another branch of the armed forces in the past, that phrase could apply to, where they received awards several levels below that, if they received anything at all. I get that nothing is fair, especially the awards process, but I would respectfully suggest that someone, somewhere, institute a formal education process for our officer corps that educates them and senior NCOs on what actions apply to what level of award and what constitutes valor and why it's important to give out awards. Because it seems to me that somewhere down the line, what equals a DFC (for instance) varies radically from service to service. Our space program has always captured an essential part of what it means to reach beyond what we thought was possible, and I hope the four brave astronauts on this mission will inspire a new generation to follow in their footsteps.

Delta A330 incident in Guarulhos - Brazilian Site @aero_in released MORE and clearer pictures of the damage on the engine. According to the site, there was a likely a catastrophic failure of the Low-Pressure Turbine (LPT). Also visible in the new picture is damage on the fan blades (This is from a batch of five pictures, as Twitter only allows four pictures on each post, I´ll add the last one in the 1st comment)
