I went to sign the Prop 4 referendum today. Imagine my surprise to find the signing location surrounded by protesters, one on a bullhorn, another with dogs, and all very confrontational to dissuade me or anyone from signing.
Once I was at the table to sign, the people there were kind, and surrounded me so that the protestors wouldn’t be able to steal my personal information.
When did this become acceptable?
If balloting locations are protected from harassment and intimidation, then areas where citizens can sign referendums should be as well.
What I experienced today wasn’t “democracy,” it was hateful, intolerant and meant to prevent me and others from exercising our first amendment rights.
As someone who lives in the newly drawn CD1 boundaries, I hate to think anyone who condones today’s actions could ever be elected to represent me in Congress.

Simmons said: “Hip‑hop does not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame… I just wanna know when Led Zeppelin’s gonna be in the Hip‑Hop Hall of Fame.”
He also pointed to artists like Iron Maiden still being excluded, adding that rap is “a spoken‑word art” that “doesn’t speak my language.” Simmons and N.W.A. famously clashed over this topic back in 2016, with Ice Cube arguing that rock & roll is “a spirit,” not a genre.
