Here’s the story about how ol’ SpursMuse became a Spurs fan. I don’t come from sports or a sports family, we were an artsy bunch. I have a theatre degree, none of my lore makes sense. I grew up in the Hill Country, bout an hour outside of San Antonio. We grew up relatively low income, so my dad would read the San Antonio Express News to keep up to date on the Spurs so he could get his free coffee. Eventually I caught on and neither one of us watched the Spurs, but I asked if I could come along and get a free hot chocolate as a kid. It became a father-son tradition. Neither of us cared about the basketball, we just cared about our free drink and the early morning trip. Over the years, my father and I would start to follow the Spurs more closely and it became a bond between the two of us. I fell in love with the sport and started immersing myself in the game. I still wasn’t athletic, but I marveled at the artistic way the Spurs played basketball. My dad surprised me back in the early 2010s with my first in-person Spurs game. The first of many. All this to say - the free coffee promotion created my fandom. It created a stronger bond with my father who worked seven days a week throughout my life. It brought a theater kid from the middle of nowhere to San Antonio to enjoy a basketball game. Bring the free coffee back.

I used to be podcast > writing. Now that I'm writing daily, that mindset has changed. I'm more efficient with my words. I can put a stronger emphasis on my overall point, rather than going full Michael Scott on a podcast and not knowing where my thoughts might take me.
