@WMTDebatePro @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw For a short solution we can let encampment be as they are not infringing on others rights and work more toward improving shelter environments so the homeless actually feel safe to live in a shelter.

At this stage of debate, it should be noted that a larger point of debate is how to set up homeless citizens for success. Bringing them to a stage where they can get out of homelesses is a more important topic of debate. #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ

@WMTDebatePro @OJEN_ROEJ I understand the purpose of these tiny homes, but it would take years to fulfill them, everything comes with a cost. The reason why the homeless are in encampments in the first place is that they have nowhere to go.

@fhaque3681 @OJEN_ROEJ Tiny homes come together quickly as the structure is basic. For example, we can use pre-built fixtures like rundown motels. I agree that it will cost some funding to execute however, it's in the right direction to more of a permanent fix. @OJEN_ROEJ #ojenroejsp22

@WMTDebatePro @OJEN_ROEJ I like the idea of tiny homes, but at the same time the funding to execute this would be expensive, to me, it looks like one tiny home per person and that would take many years to complete as there are hundreds of homeless people in Hamilton.

@Darrah_Smith @OJEN_ROEJ It's easier said than done. Are you saying that until homes are built for those who are homeless, do you think there's no other solution? We don't believe that unfettered encampments are the only alternative. @OJEN_ROEJ #ojenroejsp22

@OJEN_ROEJ In the heart of Hamilton we have a massive homeless population. People need somewhere to go, and if encampments are what works for now, so be it. Encampments aren't the end all be all, but it's a place to live. #ojenroejsp22

@akanagar4202 What I meant, is that it is not their fault. If shelters are not providing a safe environment then they have no choice but to live in tent encampments to provide themselves with the safety they deserve.

@fhaque3681 I agree that shelters can be unhygienic and overcrowded, but what do you mean by "their fault"? I assume you mean they should not be evicted because the shelters offered are not sufficient, but could you elaborate?

We can all agree to sections 7&15 were violated by this law. Poor people do not belong in the street. It is the government's fault for creating unsafe unhygienic and overcrowded shelter homes that force the poor to live on the streets. So is it really their fault?

#OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Overall, tent encampments are not a desirable option, but to allow its eviction, safe shelters and support should be provided to those living in them. (3/3)

#OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Allowing tent encampments to continue can risk the public from a safe environment such as in parks, but evicting them also goes against those living in the tents. (1/3)

@Musheerah13 @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw I agree, it is almost like a cycle! Homeless people are not objects that we can move around whenever we want. They need a safe place to stay, and the government does not show much interest to find a proper solution.

As a society, it is our duty to take care of those surrounding us. After all, we all could use help from time to time. However, pushing people out of their shelter and leaving them with no where to go is creating a worse problem for them. 1/? @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22

@adepew5183 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw Are you saying that the homeless are not a part of the public? This is the reason why it breaks section 15 of the charter because their interest in safety is not equal.

Municipalities are obligated to maintain safe public areas for the safety and benefit of the general public. Homeless encampments pose threats to the safety of the public. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22 @ProvostLaw

@hannahhthompso1 @griffinslaw22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw So you are saying they are choosing to live in parks? Shelters have inadequate safety, it is always overcrowded they have the right to feel safe and if that means living in a park then why not? Also if it is not our responsibility then who's responsibility is it?

Public areas may not be the solution for homeless people to live, however how does kicking them out solve any issues or help them? They need rehabilitation and a safe place to be relocated #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw

#OJENROEJSP22 @ProvostLaw @OJEN_ROEJ At the peak of Covid when we were all told by the government to stay home, why can't that be applied to the homeless? Tent encampments were home to them because they had nowhere else to go.
