It was the process, prior bias, and misuse of authority. A misdemeanor was upgraded to a felony so Trump could be charged with a series of crimes that a US attorney had already passed on prosecuting in a jurisdiction with an overwhelming political bias against him. The prosecutor publicly stated prior to this case that his goal in office was to arrest and convict Trump. The judge has donated money to Biden affiliates and family works with Biden supporting groups. Then, there is the environment upon which the prosecutor chose to spend the resources of the city of New York. Thousands of violent crimes from assault to even attempted murder aren't being prosecuted, but apparently, an enormous amount of resources and bandwidth have to be expended to convict a defendant of something he did a decade ago that has no relevance to the people of New York today. Nothing was stolen. No person was harmed. The vast majority of Americans understand what just happened. The justice system was used for political purposes to damage a presidential candidate that the Deep State doesn't want to be president again. It's OK to use the ballot box and the town crier to challenge someone politically. It's not OK to use the justice system. Lines were crossed that are now exceedingly difficult to scale back, and the integrity of our entire system is diminished.

I am extraordinarily disappointed that our @GovernorGordon is questioning the #RuleOfLaw of the State of New York with no evidence, analysis or justification. A jury of 12 unanimously found the defendant guilty on 34 felony counts. What did they get wrong? #Gaslighting

Indeed, great damage was done today to the public’s faith in the American legal system. If a former President can be criminally convicted over such a trivial matter – motivated by politics, rather than justice – then anyone is at risk of a similar fate.
