In Sindh and Punjab condoms are used as balloons, it’s hilarious on one level but shows what happens when free condoms are provided without any explanation. In the late nineties a media add promoting condom use to prevent AIDS showed a couple in the rain without an umbrella. The add simply said don’t be caught out in the rain without an umbrella. No one knew what the add was actually about. There is our moral preference and then a ground reality to a virus. We need to be on the ground and not in our virtues - sadly.

The maximum permitted by international law: 15 days. The year now: his twelfth in solitary. Do the math. 4,000+ days. This isn't a statistic. It's 12 years. Pakistani law explicitly allows three months. That's 90 days. Junaid Hafeez has been confined 133 times longer.

Next week is the anniversary of Hiroshima. Today, the Prime Minister has announced more investment in weapons of mass destruction. The UK spends £12,000 every minute on nuclear weapons. Imagine if we spent that money on social care, schools and the NHS instead.

#Pakistan: CPJ is deeply concerned about the deteriorating health of Times of Kashmir journalist Syed Farhad Ali Shah, who has been detained since June 20 under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance after covering protests in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Held for more than a month without charge or judicial proceedings, Shah began a hunger strike on Tuesday, July 28, to protest his arbitrary detention. Authorities must ensure he receives urgent and adequate medical care and immediately and unconditionally release him. cpj.org/2026/07/journa… #PressFreedom #JournalismIsNotACrime #Kashmir @CMShehbaz @PMofAJK @PakPMO

The indian playbook in kashmir has always been brutal oppression. At least the Pakistani ppl have the honesty & courage to admit what our govt has done in Rawalkot is undeniably wrong. Pakistanis everywhere are speaking up. You might want to adopt some of that honesty too

@fifiharoon The Indian playbook is development and prosperity for J&K. An Indian state. The Pakistani playbook for Pok is treachery, manipulation and deceit. Pok will come back to India.

Amnesty International South Asia, Regional Office
PAKISTAN: Reacting to reports that security forces used lethal force against protesters in Rawalakot, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, on the first day of the regional election, Isabelle Lassee, Amnesty International’s Acting Regional Director for South Asia, said:  “The disturbing reports emerging from Rawalakot are consistent with the Pakistani authorities’ long history of unlawful violence against protesters in Jammu and Kashmir. A prompt, independent, and transparent investigation must be ordered into the security forces’ use of force against protesters. So long as an internet and mobile services blackout remains in place, it will severely impede the independent verification of the full extent of the situation on the ground. We urge the Pakistani authorities to restore all communications access and allow media and independent observers into the area.” Read more: amnesty.org/en/latest/news…

Op-Ed: "Whatever is unfolding in Balochistan, KP and Azad Kashmir reflects a pushback against an elite-dominated power structure. Hundreds of political and human rights activists are said to be behind bars. The judiciary itself is shackled, restricting avenues for those seeking justice. News from these areas may be kept off the mainstream media, but reality cannot be hidden in the age of social media." dawn.com/news/2019178

News blackout from AJK Kashmir means journalists cannot independently verify facts on the ground. What happened? Why were so many lives lost? Who opened fire? Come clean. Otherwise Govt not really in a position to accuse citizens of spreading falsehoods on social media.

🚨 🚨 At least 19 protesters may have been killed in Rawalakot,Azad Kashmir, although there has been no official confirmation so far.The protesters were reportedly attempting to enter Rawalakot City on Tuesday evening when police and security forces allegedly opened fire. The confrontation continued late into the night. An internet shutdown has made independent verification extremely difficult. However, it has been confirmed that the situation in Rawalakot remains tense.
