@kwiens We used that same Framework part to implement a hard drive data migration.

Currently, high school students can get AP credits in subjects like Biology, Calculus, and even Art classes. But for some reason, we don't elevate Shop Class to that same level — even though it's where you strengthen hands-on skills foundational to a career in the trades. Students should get dual enrollment credits in those classes, and I'm working to make that a reality.

From the @FBI: Your out of date router could put you at risk. That's why it's so important that manufactures TELL US for how long they're going to support our products. At the very least we need transparency for how long products are supported before we buy them. h/t @gigastacey

I don't like putting stickers anywhere on my devices, but this one is an exception.

Having a portable 12V power supply is useful for all kinds of things, not just releasing battery adhesives. Switch your wall warts over to battery power! ifixit.com/News/101356/in…

We've got a new tool! VoltClip is a USB-C 12 volt power supply. It works to release the adhesive on the new iPhone 16.

If you really need to walk away from an opporunity to learn about maintaining your own stuff, there's a chance none of us will be able work on it. We'll be working with others who were willing, able, and excited to learn about repair and maintenance. 6/end

Abandoning an opportunity to learn how to fix your stuff puts us at a disadvantage towards effective repair. We would be operating in the dark. We wind up going down a rabbit hole, giving up other repairs that could have taken less time and effort. 5/

Without the skill-sharing, she would have had to wait for another Fixing Session. Instead, she fetched the soldering kit, resoldered everything, and got it working again. Those are the victories we want to see. 4/

The small appliance had no power and no lights. We saw bad parts. We could have done the work ourselves, but we chose to train the owner on through-hole soldering. She got it working. The mini-fridge actually went out again later that week. 3/

Traditional Repair Shop? We're Very Different We're so interested in sharing what we know about repair, we even changed our About Us sections to include skill sharing as part of our mission. As much as we like fixing stuff, we love teaching others to do so even more. 1/

@jason_koebler @kwiens We've heard whispers to this from decades ago as part of the T&C's between Apple and shredders 🤬😡☹️

This is a great piece, and confirms the broader scale of a piece I did a long time ago: Apple has "must shred" agreements with e-waste recyclers that require them to destroy devices that could easily be repaired/refurbished/reused after having data wiped bloomberg.com/news/features/…

Requiring repair score cards for phones and laptops is common sense. That’s why @LeroyComrie and I have a bill to require that major electronics be rated based on their repairability.
Lucas Rockett Gutterman 🚀@LG_Rocket

We deserve to know if the phone or laptop we want to buy is repairable before we buy it. Yesterday I released the Failing the Fix scorecard with @Bobby4Brooklyn, sponsor of #nypol Repair Scores A8434/S8332 and #RightToRepair sponsor @PatFahy46.
