Every year when the weather heats up, gangs of juveniles show up in Times Square like clockwork and start causing problems. These juvenile gangs were tied to about 75% of the crime in the area last year—everything from robberies to assaults and even shootings. They often target tourists, knowing there’s a good chance those victims won’t be around long enough to follow through in court. With warmer days already here, it’s only a matter of time before these gangs return. But the @NYPDPC has an opportunity to get ahead of it now and prevent more people from becoming victims. I remember one shooting last year where a car was hit—I was just two cars ahead. I personally helped at that scene, and seeing the mother’s face as she held her child is something I’ll never forget. There was a 3-year-old inside who was nearly struck.
